(PRESS RELEASE) HEDEHUSENE, 22-Aug-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — In a significant move towards reducing carbon emissions in road freight, global logistics giant DSV has announced a landmark agreement with Volvo Trucks for the acquisition of 300 electric trucks. This deal, one of the largest of its kind, marks a critical step in DSV’s ambitious plans to drive the green transition within the transport sector.

Under the new agreement, DSV will integrate these 300 zero-emission electric trucks into its operations across Europe, alongside an additional 500 Volvo trucks featuring fuel-efficient diesel and gas drivetrains. The deliveries are slated to take place between 2024 and 2026, with this initiative forming a key part of DSV’s strategy to expand its electric truck fleet to 2,000 units by 2030.

Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks, expressed pride in the deepening partnership with DSV, stating, “This collaboration demonstrates that zero-emission transport solutions are not only feasible but are already making a tangible impact. This substantial order reinforces our shared commitment to achieving significant CO2 reductions.”

Søren Schmidt, CEO of DSV Road, emphasized the importance of cross-sector collaboration in driving industry-wide decarbonization efforts. “This agreement with Volvo is a crucial step towards making sustainable trucking solutions more accessible to our customers. As a leader in logistics, DSV is dedicated to staying at the forefront of the green transition, and this partnership exemplifies how innovative technologies can be scaled to achieve this goal.”

The electric trucks supplied to DSV will include Volvo’s latest FH Aero Electric model, renowned for its enhanced aerodynamics and superior energy efficiency. DSV, already Volvo Group’s largest goods transporter, has been deploying electric trucks on routes in Sweden and Denmark, supported by charging infrastructure powered by solar energy at its distribution centers in Landskrona and Horsens.

In addition to expanding DSV’s green fleet, the partnership also supports the Science-Based Targets initiative, with both companies committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, in alignment with the Paris Agreement. DSV aims to reduce direct emissions (scope 1 and 2) by 50% and indirect emissions (scope 3) by 30% by 2030, based on its 2019 baseline.

Since 2019, Volvo Trucks has delivered over 3,800 electric trucks across 46 countries, driving more than 90 million kilometers. With the broadest range of fully electric models in the industry, Volvo continues to lead the charge in sustainable road transport.
