(PRESS RELEASE) BONN, 3-Jun-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Deutsche Post DHL Group (ETR: DPW), a German multinational package delivery and supply chain management company, announces that DHL eCommerce has officially opened a new, state-of-the-art parcel hub in the UK, located south of Coventry Airport. Spanning 25,000 m², the new facility is designed to support the booming domestic and international e-commerce market, which is projected to reach €207 billion in turnover by 2029. This expansion will not only create up to 600 jobs but will also position DHL eCommerce to capture a larger market share by significantly boosting its parcel handling capacity.

The opening of the Coventry hub is part of DHL eCommerce’s broader €560 million investment strategy in the UK, which was announced in 2022. The investment focuses on enhancing the company’s logistics capacity and introducing cutting-edge parcel automation technology. With a capacity to handle over 1 million parcels per day, the hub includes a 48-door cross-dock facility, secure bonded storage, and advanced customs capabilities, all of which will facilitate the growth of international trade.

DHL’s commitment to sustainability is evident in the design and construction of the new hub, which has earned a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating. The facility features 7,000 m² of solar panels, energy-efficient LED lighting, and eco-friendly landscaping to preserve the surrounding biodiversity. Additionally, the site is equipped with 120 electric vehicle (EV) charging points, further supporting DHL’s sustainability goals.

Pablo Ciano, CEO of DHL eCommerce, highlighted the strategic importance of the new hub: “With the UK’s e-commerce market outpacing all others in Europe, this new hub enables us to meet growing demand while improving the reliability and sustainability of our services. Our increased capacity will ensure we can provide UK businesses with the support they need to thrive in the digital economy.”

Stuart Hill, CEO of DHL eCommerce UK, added, “This investment reflects our strong confidence in the UK market and our commitment to supporting British businesses. By enhancing our logistics network, we are helping our customers scale their operations efficiently while creating long-term employment opportunities and setting a new standard for sustainable logistics.”

The Coventry hub is a significant milestone for DHL eCommerce, reinforcing its role as a key player in the UK’s rapidly growing e-commerce sector and ensuring that the company remains well-positioned to support the future of global trade.
