(PRESS RELEASE) PARIS, 10-Sep-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Colas CZ and Colas Rail have secured a €77 million contract from Správa železnic (Czech Railway Company) to modernize an 8-kilometer railway line in Northern Bohemia. This vital section of track, originally built in the 1980s to support brown coal extraction, is part of a major European rail corridor. The project will enhance the safety and efficiency of the line, with work scheduled to begin in September 2024 and expected to conclude by 2027.

The comprehensive modernization includes upgrades to double-tracks, installation of new catenaries, signaling system improvements, and renovation of six railway bridges. Additionally, two accessible platforms, a footbridge for pedestrians and cyclists, and an underpass will be constructed to improve passenger comfort.

Colas aims to boost regional economic development through improved transportation infrastructure. “We are proud to undertake this project, which will provide faster and safer travel, benefiting both passengers and the local economy,” said Francis Grass, Executive Vice President of Colas (Europe, Middle East, Africa).
