Capgemini and Eneco Look to Cross-Industry Collaboration to Achieve Sustainability Goals

(IN BRIEF) Capgemini and Eneco have announced a joint commitment to reduce Eneco’s CO2 emissions by one megaton through joint initiatives across scopes 1, 2, and 3 by 2030. This is part of a broader 10-year agreement between the two companies to accelerate Eneco’s transition towards sustainable energy, and help meet its ambition of becoming carbon-neutral by 2035. The two companies will explore the impact of engineering, digital, data & AI, business technology, and platforms on reducing CO2 emissions. Capgemini’s work with Eneco is expected to contribute approximately 17% towards Eneco’s 2030 carbon reduction goal.

(PRESS RELEASE) PARIS, 13-Mar-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — Capgemini (EPA: CAP), a French multinational leader in consulting, technology services and digital transformation, and Eneco, companies focused on renewable energy, innovation, energy trade and retail, have announced a commitment to reduce Eneco’s CO2 emissions by one megaton through joint initiatives across scopes 1, 2 and 3 by 2030. This is part of a broader 10-year agreement between Capgemini and Eneco to accelerate Eneco’s transition towards sustainable energy and help meet its ambition of becoming carbon-neutral by 2035.

The companies will explore the impact of engineering, digital, data & AI, business technology and platforms on reducing scope 1, 2, and 3 CO2 emissions. Capgemini’s work with Eneco is expected to contribute approximately 17% towards Eneco’s 2030 carbon reduction goal.

To demonstrate how business model, process, and technology innovation can help reduce CO2 emissions, Capgemini and Eneco assessed the potential of a number of innovations that focus mainly on Scope 3, with a comprehensive carbon calculation approach. Reducing the carbon footprint of Eneco’s partners and customers is key, for example through radical electrification, phasing-out natural gas, and accelerating sustainable heat solutions.

Capgemini and Eneco will jointly test and evaluate innovations, including B2B decarbonisation services to help Eneco’s business customers to further reduce carbon emissions, a Virtual Power Plant, and Digital Twins to reduce costs of constructing and operating onshore and offshore windfarms.

To accurately track, report and analyze progress and enable Eneco to make data-based decisions, CO2 calculation models have been set up using a Life Cycle Assessment, cradle to grave principle, and business data. Capgemini will also support Eneco to reduce its Scope 1 and 2 emissions through curtailing its IT footprint, more energy efficient offices and buildings used by Eneco, and a reduction of CO2 in Eneco’s own energy supply and production chain.

Both companies believe that a sustainable future is achievable only through cross-industry collaboration with all stakeholders, including customers, strategic partners, and suppliers.

Some of the other innovations that Capgemini and Eneco plan to evaluate include B2B decarbonisation services, which offer solutions like heat pumps, smart office lighting, insulation, solar boilers and panels to help Eneco’s business customers reduce their carbon emissions. They will also explore a Virtual Power Plant, a digital platform designed to balance the supply and demand of renewable energy through energy trade. Additionally, the companies will explore the use of Digital Twins to lower the cost of constructing and operating onshore and offshore windfarms.
