(PRESS RELEASE) ESSEN, 20-Aug-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Brenntag, a global leader in the distribution of chemicals and ingredients, has strategically expanded its footprint in Brazil’s thriving Life Science sector with the acquisition of two established specialty chemicals distributors, PIC Química e Farmacêutica Ltda. (PIC) and PharmaSpecial Especialidades Químicas e Farmacêuticas Ltda. (PharmaSpecial). This move marks a significant step forward in Brenntag’s efforts to bolster its presence in one of the largest markets for Personal Care and Pharma products worldwide.

PIC and PharmaSpecial, both family-owned businesses with a strong reputation in the industry, have served as key suppliers to large customers and national compounding pharmacies in Brazil. Their acquisition will enable Brenntag to enhance its product offerings and extend its service capabilities in the Life Science industry across the region.

Enhancing Capabilities and Expanding Market Reach

The acquisition is poised to significantly enhance Brenntag’s Life Science business in Brazil by integrating the extensive portfolios of PIC and PharmaSpecial into its existing operations. This expansion aligns with Brenntag’s global Pharma strategy, adding valuable resources such as an Applications & Innovation Center and two laboratories to its network. These additions will allow Brenntag to better serve its customers with advanced solutions and further penetrate the soft gel capsule market, a segment of growing importance in the pharmaceutical industry.

Torsten Walz, Global President of Pharma at Brenntag Specialties, emphasized the strategic value of this acquisition: “PIC and PharmaSpecial have developed strong partnerships with world-class suppliers and offer value-added services that align perfectly with our global Pharma strategy. We are excited to build on this foundation and expand our business in Brazil.”

A Strategic Expansion in Latin America

This acquisition not only strengthens Brenntag’s position in Brazil but also reinforces its overall presence in Latin America. François Bleger, Global President of Beauty & Care at Brenntag Specialties, highlighted the importance of this move: “Expanding our footprint in Latin America is a critical component of our growth strategy. By bringing PIC and PharmaSpecial into the Brenntag family, we are better equipped to serve our customers, enhance our value-added services, and leverage our global network of Application & Innovation Centers.”

Fabio Morais, CEO of PIC and PharmaSpecial, expressed optimism about the future under Brenntag’s leadership: “Joining Brenntag presents an incredible opportunity for growth. Our team is excited to tap into Brenntag’s global expertise and resources, which will enable us to better serve our customers and expand the reach of our supply partners on a global scale.”

A Strategic Acquisition with Long-Term Potential

Founded in 1991 and headquartered in Itapevi, Brazil, PIC and PharmaSpecial have built a solid reputation in the industry, generating sales of approximately 11 million EUR in 2023. The acquisition of these companies is expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2024, pending regulatory approvals and other customary conditions. While financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, this strategic acquisition is expected to bring long-term benefits to Brenntag’s operations in Brazil and beyond.
