BAE Systems Secures $180 Million Contract for Advanced TRIDON Mk2 Air Defence System

(IN BRIEF) BAE Systems has secured a $180 million contract from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration for its TRIDON Mk2 anti-aircraft system. The mobile system is designed to counter a range of aerial threats, including drones, missiles, and aircraft, while also targeting ground threats. With its modular design and multi-target capability, TRIDON Mk2 offers a flexible and cost-effective solution for modern defence needs. The system has already been procured to support Ukraine’s air defence, highlighting its strategic relevance in current security environments.

(PRESS RELEASE) FARNBOROUGH, 3-Apr-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — BAE Systems has been awarded a contract valued at $180 million by the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration for the delivery of the TRIDON Mk2 anti-aircraft system, reinforcing its position in advanced air defence technologies.

The TRIDON Mk2 is a mobile, truck-mounted 40 mm gun system developed to address emerging gaps in modern air defence capabilities. Designed for high operational flexibility, the system is capable of engaging multiple targets simultaneously, including drones, cruise missiles, and aircraft. In addition to aerial threats, it can also be deployed against ground-based targets such as armoured vehicles, enhancing its role in both military operations and the protection of critical infrastructure.

Lena Gillström stated that the system has been developed to respond to the evolving nature of modern warfare, where rapid adaptability and precision are essential. She emphasized the company’s continued focus on delivering advanced defence solutions that help customers address increasingly complex security challenges.

The TRIDON Mk2 is engineered for rapid deployment and operational efficiency, combining high precision with cost-effective performance. Its modular architecture allows for ongoing upgrades and integration of new technologies, ensuring the system remains relevant in dynamic threat environments.

Earlier in 2026, the FMV, acting on behalf of Sweden and Denmark, procured TRIDON Mk2 systems as part of a broader initiative to support Ukraine’s air defence capabilities. This underscores the system’s strategic importance in strengthening regional and international security.

The latest contract further highlights growing demand for flexible and reliable air defence systems capable of addressing a wide spectrum of threats in modern conflict scenarios.
