BAE Systems Advances Multi-Class Soft-Kill System to Counter Guided Missile Threats

(IN BRIEF) BAE Systems has been awarded a follow-on contract by the U.S. Army to advance its Multi-Class Soft-Kill System (MCSKS), enhancing protection for ground combat vehicles against guided missiles and related threats. The program will further develop the laser-based Stormcrow™ and TERRA RAVEN™ countermeasures, which integrate advanced electro-optic/infrared and radio-frequency technologies for layered defense. These systems improve situational awareness and threat response in complex environments while conserving kinetic countermeasures. Manufactured in Austin, Texas, with R&D support from FAST Labs™, the MCSKS builds on BAE Systems’ expertise in electromagnetic warfare and its proven success in prior protection system programs.

(PRESS RELEASE) FARNBOROUGH, 20-Nov-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — BAE Systems has secured a follow-on contract from the U.S. Army to continue developing its Multi-Class Soft-Kill System (MCSKS), an advanced countermeasure solution designed to shield ground combat vehicles from guided missiles and related threats. This initiative aims to enhance vehicle survivability and ensure mission success in modern combat environments.

The MCSKS program will see further development of BAE Systems’ innovative laser-based Stormcrow™ and TERRA RAVEN™ countermeasure systems. These cutting-edge technologies advance the Army’s electronic warfare-focused Active Protection System (APS) by offering effective threat neutralization while conserving kinetic countermeasures.

“Modern combat vehicles require active protection systems capable of countering sophisticated threats with speed and efficiency,” said Jared Belinsky, director of Integrated Survivability Solutions at BAE Systems. “Our missile countermeasures are integral to our comprehensive electromagnetic warfare strategy. Through our Intrepid Shield™ approach, we’re providing robust protection for our customers’ platforms to maximize their battlefield effectiveness.”

BAE Systems’ solutions offer next-generation, layered defense capabilities for vehicles and maritime platforms. These systems leverage advanced electro-optic/infrared (EO/IR) and radio-frequency (RF) spectrum technologies, combining compact, modular designs with intelligent processing and multi-function sensors. This integration delivers enhanced situational awareness and responsive threat mitigation across diverse terrains, lighting conditions, and weather scenarios.

With decades of experience supplying combat-proven aircraft survivability equipment to the U.S. Department of Defense and allied forces, BAE Systems is a recognized leader in full-spectrum electromagnetic warfare technologies. The MCSKS contract builds on the company’s success in previous programs, including the Advanced Layered Soft Kill System (ALSKS) and Layered Soft Kill System (LSKS), which demonstrated significant operational capabilities in various trials.

The company’s vehicle protection systems are developed and manufactured at its advanced facility in Austin, Texas, with additional research and development contributions from its FAST Labs™ division in Merrimack, New Hampshire. BAE Systems’ continued work under the MCSKS program underscores its commitment to delivering innovative, cost-effective solutions for the evolving challenges of modern warfare.
