ECE to modernize Allianz Real Estate’s Europa-Passage Hamburg

Five restaurants and food court with nearly 400 seats / Opening scheduled for fall 2017 / Allianz to invest 14 million euros

HAMBURG, 24-Jan-2017 — /EuropaWire/ — More stylish, more modern, more diverse: Ten years after its opening, Europa-Passage, located in downtown Hamburg, will get a complete makeover. The new “FoodSky” extending across the entire top floor of the center will be the main focus of the planned refurbishment. It will comprise a food court accommodating 15 food retailers and a common seating area with nearly 400 seats as well as five further restaurants. The “FoodSky” will open in fall of this year. Once opened the food area will also be open to customers on Sundays from 11am to 6pm. The other modernizations for Europa Passage will be completed by spring 2018. In the past years, Allianz, who owns Europa Passage, has been specializing in retail real estate investments. The company will invest a total of 14 million euros into the refurbishment of the center. ECE has been providing the center management services for Europa Passage since 2008 and its team of professionals will also be responsible for the modernization.

The renovation will ensure that Europa Passage will remain an attractive customer magnet in downtown Hamburg in the future.”

An entire floor for pleasure and taste

“Dining options have become more and more significant for a premium shopping experience. Our new FoodSky will become an absolute highlight that will enthuse our visitors and guests anew time and again,” promises Center Manager Gerhard Löwe. The food court will be a place designed for a high quality of stay and a long dwell time – a space to feel at ease and to relax. After completion of the new food area, dinning concepts will have a share of approx. 20 percent at Europa Passage.

A large, ellipses-shaped food court with nearly 400 seats will be constructed in the center of this new oasis of delight. It allows visitors to select their favorite dish from one of the 15 outlets and still eat with their family, friends, or colleagues at the same table.

Premium material, ambient lighting

“The new design of the FoodSky with warm colors, sophisticated accessories, and many design elements will provide a comfortable ambiance and a wellness atmosphere that will be reminiscent of European metropolises such as London, Paris, Madrid or Copenhagen,” explains ECE architect Ingo Schulze. Premium and natural building material, high-quality furniture, and ambient lighting round off the design of the new dining place to be.

Besides the new “Food Sky”, the refurbishment also includes the other four floors which will also get a new, fresh look and a new emphasis with modern colors. Each of the five stories will get an individual color and graphic design that allows for a better indoor navigation for visitors.

From takeaway to starred restaurant

The culinary offers of the new “FoodSky” range from small takeaway to a starred restaurant. Besides the Se7en Oceans with its fantastic view across the Inner Alster Lake and classic star cuisine by Frédéric Morel, which has already been located on this floor, and further four new restaurants, the majority of the successful food concepts located on the ground floor of Europa Passage will move to the new “FoodSky”. These include, among others, “Boussi Falafel” (oriental specialties), “Chutney” (Indian cuisine), “Ciao Bella” (Pizza and Pasta), “Gecko” (Burritos and Tacos) and “Pizza Hut”.

New food retailers, among others, “bok” (Asian Food), “Nem” (Vietnamese cuisine), and “Palacios” (Spanish cuisine) have already secured their spaces in the “FoodSky”. “We will add further exciting local and national outlets to this attractive mix of dining concepts. The modernization of the ground floor of Europa Passage will also be completed by spring 2018. The restaurant spaces becoming available will be leased to grocery stores and retailers that offer articles of daily use – one of them will be a “denn’s Biomarkt” organic supermarket.

Europa Passage: Shopping destination with Inner Alster view

Impressive location and spectacular architecture: Europa Passage, opened in 2006, is located in the heart of downtown Hamburg and constitutes the connection between the main shopping area of Mönckebergstrasse and Jungfernstieg promenade at the Inner Alster Lake. The center’s historic architecture blends in with the historic surroundings and its parabolic arch design is reminiscent of a ship’s hull. Europa Passage houses 120 shops on five stories totaling a sales area of 30,000 m². On average, 53,000 people visit the center every day.
