(IN BRIEF) Alstom has signed a contract with PORR to deliver signalling and traffic control systems as part of the expansion of railway line 354 in Oborniki Wielkopolskie, Poland. The project includes a new track, a second bridge over the Warta River, a passing loop in Parkowo, and upgrades to the Poznań–Piła Local Control Centre, with completion scheduled for 2026. Alongside signalling works, the investment will provide improved passenger facilities at Oborniki Wielkopolskie Miasto station, including a new platform, underpass with elevators, and modern passenger amenities. Backed by the National Recovery Plan, the initiative will ease bottlenecks, increase capacity, and strengthen rail safety while complementing earlier modernisation of the Poznań–Piła line. Alstom brings extensive experience in Polish rail projects, from ERTMS Level 2 implementation to the modernisation of level crossings and centralised traffic control systems.

(PRESS RELEASE) SAINT-OUEN-SUR-SEINE, 26-Sep-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Alstom, a global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, has signed a contract with construction company PORR to deliver railway traffic control and signalling systems for the expansion of line 354 in Oborniki Wielkopolskie. The project, part of Poland’s National Recovery Plan, aims to eliminate bottlenecks, strengthen safety, and boost regional rail capacity within an accelerated timeframe.

The works include the design and installation of advanced railway traffic control systems for a new track and a second bridge crossing over the Warta River. The section between Oborniki Wielkopolskie Most junction and Oborniki Wielkopolskie station will also benefit from modern signalling equipment and the creation of a new passing loop in Parkowo. In addition, Alstom will upgrade the Local Control Centre (LCS) Poznań–Piła to improve operational efficiency. The contract is scheduled for completion by the second quarter of 2026.

As part of the broader investment, the project will enhance passenger services through the construction of a new platform at Oborniki Wielkopolskie Miasto stop. The platform will feature modern amenities including a covered waiting area, underpass with elevators, lighting, passenger information systems, and accessibility upgrades for travellers with reduced mobility. Together, these enhancements will improve comfort and convenience for both regional and long-distance passengers.

Adam Juretko, Head of the Katowice Branch at Alstom Polska, said: “The expansion of railway line 354 reflects both the technical ambition of the project and Alstom’s proven ability to deliver with efficiency and agility. With our experience and innovative solutions, we are proud to contribute to the development of railway infrastructure in a region vital for passenger and freight connections.”

This investment builds on the comprehensive modernisation of the Poznań–Piła railway line completed in 2019 and represents a significant step in strengthening regional connectivity. Alstom’s role reinforces its long-standing contribution to Poland’s rail sector, which includes pioneering the first ERTMS Level 2 implementation, deploying over 30 centralised traffic control systems, modernising more than 1,700 level crossing signalling systems, and equipping more than 220 stations with computer-based interlocking systems.

By partnering on this ambitious project, Alstom and PORR are helping to advance Poland’s rail modernisation agenda, ensuring greater safety, efficiency, and sustainability for passengers and freight operators alike.
