Metso Brings Induction Heating Recycling Technology In-House with TL Solution Acquisition

(IN BRIEF) Metso will acquire TL Solution’s recycling operations and induction heating technology development capabilities to strengthen its mill lining recycling services. This move follows Metso’s 2022 introduction of the Poly-Met™ recycling service and builds on over a decade of internal development. By integrating TL Solution’s separation technology, Metso enhances its Metso Plus offering, providing reliable, scalable, and customer-specific recycling solutions across Europe, the Nordics, Chile, and soon North America. The service sustainably processes composite and rubber mill liners—recovering metal components for reuse—thereby reducing landfill waste and CO₂ emissions. The deal, finalizing in August 2025, carries no material financial impact and underscores Metso’s commitment to circular practices in mining.

(PRESS RELEASE) ESPOO, 4-Jul-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Metso has signed an agreement to acquire TL Solution’s recycling operations and induction heating technology development assets, bolstering its capabilities in innovative mill lining recycling and customer support. TL Solution, a private firm based in Oulu, Finland, has previously partnered with Metso on advancing recycling solutions.

Since launching its first Poly-Met™ mill liner recycling service—powered by induction heating—in 2022, Metso has led the market in sustainable mill lining reuse. “We began developing mill lining recycling more than a decade ago,” explains Martin Karlsson, Senior Vice President of Metso’s Mill Lining business line. “Bringing TL Solution’s unique separation technology and operations in-house reinforces our dedication to circularity and sustainable innovation in mining.”

By owning the full technology stack and expertise, Metso can ensure reliable, scalable recycling services tailored to each customer. This service, integrated into Metso Plus, is already available to mill lining service contract clients across Europe and the Nordics, with operations in Chile and planned expansion into North America.

Metso’s mill liner recycling tackles a major environmental challenge by diverting worn liners—composed of rubber, metal inserts, wear plates, and backing plates—from landfills, reducing CO₂ emissions, and closing the material loop. The company also recycles metallic liners, reclaiming metals for use in new equipment manufacturing.

The acquisition is expected to close in August 2025. Financial details remain confidential, with no significant impact on Metso’s financial statements.
