(PRESS RELEASE) BERLIN/PARIS, 25-Sep-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Eviden, a key player within the Atos Group focused on digital innovation, has announced that the Luxembourg National Railway Company (CFL) has selected its next-generation critical communication solutions to upgrade its GSM-R command and control network. This initiative aims to enhance the safety and operational efficiency of CFL’s railway services.

Set to be operational by late 2026, this project represents one of the first commercial deployments of Mobile Communication for Railways (MCx) in Europe and marks a significant step toward the Future Railway Mobile Communication System (FRCMS), which will serve as the international standard for railway communications.

CFL’s selected solution utilizes a cutting-edge, standardized 3GPP framework tailored to meet the specific needs of the railway operator. Eviden’s experts have ensured that the MCx system seamlessly integrates with existing PBX systems, Wi-Fi, 4G/5G mobile networks, and GSM-R. The package includes the Lifelink suite, which features the MCx application, robust cybersecurity measures, a voice recording system, and a comprehensive dispatching platform.

In 2023, CFL facilitated the travel of approximately 28.7 million passengers and transported 2.303 million tons-km of goods, employing over 5,000 individuals and standing as Luxembourg’s largest corporate employer.

Lionel Toullier, Global Head of Critical Communication Systems at Eviden, stated, “Our selection by CFL is a testament to our ability to deliver a sophisticated end-to-end solution that revitalizes their legacy dispatching framework while integrating our innovative MCx offerings. Further enhancements are planned to ensure CFL remains at the forefront of rail safety standards.”

Mathieu Perrus from CFL’s Infrastructure Engineering Department expressed enthusiasm about the project, noting, “By adopting this next-generation critical communication system, we aim to position ourselves as leaders among European railway operators. Our goal is to roll out these advancements across our national network, aligning with the industry’s evolving standards.”
