(IN BRIEF) Saab and Thales have announced a partnership at the Singapore Airshow 2024 to modernize Singapore’s Air Traffic Management (ATM) infrastructure. They plan to integrate Saab’s Integrated Digital Tower Suite (I-DTS) with Thales’ OpenSky platform to establish a unified architecture for ATM systems. This collaboration aims to enhance customer experiences, reduce risks and complexity, and set new industry standards for ATM innovation.

(PRESS RELEASE) LA DÉFENCE, 21-Feb-2024 — /EuropaWire/ —  Thales (EPA: HO), a French multinational company active in the aerospace, defence, transportation and security markets, and Saab  announced today the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at driving the long-term innovation and modernization of Singapore’s Air Traffic Management (ATM) infrastructure.

With complementary product portfolios, Saab and Thales are poised to elevate ATM development in Singapore and the wider region. As leaders in Tower Automation and Digital Towers (Saab) and advanced ATM systems and architectures (Thales), both entities bring unparalleled expertise to the table.

The partnership will see the integration of Saab’s Integrated Digital Tower Suite (I-DTS), a cutting-edge tower automation system with integrated remote tower visualization, with Thales’ OpenSky platform. This collaborative effort aims to establish a unified architecture connecting Saab I-DTS, Thales TopSky – Air Traffic Control systems, and other airport systems, laying the groundwork for an open architecture beyond 2030.

Per Ahl, CEO of Saab Digital Air Traffic Solutions and Head of ATM marketing and sales at Saab, expressed excitement about the new collaboration, stating, “This collaboration is the foundation for the ATM industry to take on a larger responsibility in terms of providing systems, services and long-term support for our customers. I look forward to these new ways of working.”

Philippe Bernard-Flattot, VP Airspace Mobility Solutions in Asia-Pacific at Thales, emphasized the significance of open architectures in the future of air traffic management systems. He stated, “Thales envisages open architectures as a key transformation for air traffic management systems in the coming years. Leveraging our OpenSky platform offering together with our centre of excellence dedicated to ATM in Singapore, Thales is excited to embark on this journey of establishing new standards that enable seamless integration between 3rd party systems.”

By addressing integration challenges seamlessly, the collaboration promises enhanced experiences for customers while reducing risks, time, and complexity. It also fosters deeper collaboration in ATM innovation, setting new industry standards from research to system replacement.
