(PRESS RELEASE) STOCKHOLM, 30-Sep-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Viettel, Vietnam’s leading telecommunications and technology enterprise, has expanded its long-standing collaboration with Ericsson through a major 5G network deployment contract. Under the agreement, Ericsson will lead the rollout of the majority of Viettel’s nationwide 5G Radio Access Network (RAN), covering key regions including the capital city Hanoi, and northern and central Vietnam. Alongside the 5G deployment, Ericsson will also modernize Viettel’s 4G infrastructure across these areas.

This partnership further solidifies the relationship between the two companies, aiming to build a cutting-edge digital infrastructure and deliver high-speed connectivity across the country. Ericsson’s advanced 5G technology will enable faster, more reliable services and support Viettel’s ambitions for the future, including spectrum refarming for both 4G and 5G services, and positioning the network for potential standalone 5G deployment.

Tao Duc Thang, President and CEO of Viettel, highlighted the significance of the 5G rollout for Vietnam’s digital transformation, noting that it will enhance user experience and drive Industry 4.0 applications. Rita Mokbel, Head of Ericsson Vietnam, emphasized that 5G will act as a catalyst for Vietnam’s economic and technological growth, enabling innovations in network slicing, enterprise applications, and more.

As part of the extended collaboration, Ericsson and Viettel have also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote 5G adoption and innovation in Vietnam. The MoU outlines joint efforts in developing 5G use cases, establishing a developer ecosystem, and leveraging emerging technologies to commercialize 5G and fuel the country’s digital transformation.
