(PRESS RELEASE) PARIS, 29-Jul-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — TotalEnergies has announced its decision to withdraw from Block 11B/12B, located off the southern coast of South Africa, following the withdrawal of its partner CNRI. TotalEnergies EP South Africa, a subsidiary of TotalEnergies, holds a 45% interest in this block.

TotalEnergies initially entered Block 11B/12B in 2013 and made two significant gas discoveries, Brulpadda and Luiperd. However, despite these discoveries, the company has determined that it is not economically viable to develop and monetize these gas resources for the South African market.

In addition to exiting Block 11B/12B, TotalEnergies has also decided to withdraw from offshore exploration Block 5/6/7, where it currently holds a 40% interest through TotalEnergies EP South Africa.
