Telia among the few European companies that achieved the greatest cut in greenhouse gas emissions

(PRESS RELEASE) STOCKHOLM, 21-May-2021 — /EuropaWire/ — Telia Company AB, a Swedish multinational telecommunications company and mobile network operator, has announced it has been named by FT and Statista among select European companies that achieved the greatest cut in greenhouse gas emissions.

FT and Statista scrutinized data from thousands of companies for the inaugural list of Europe’s Climate Leaders. The final list contains 300 companies from across Europe that have demonstrated the greatest reduction in their greenhouse gas intensity between 2014 and 2019 (emissions relative to revenue).

“I’m delighted and honored that our efforts are recognized by Financial Times and Statista. We’re constantly challenging ourselves on how we innovate, operate and collaborate to reduce risks to people and the planet while maximizing positive societal impacts”, says Sara Nordbrand, Head of Sustainability at Telia Company.

While FT and Statista research covers 2014-2019, Telia has since achieved carbon neutrality within its own operations and set Science Based Targets to align its work with a 1.5 degree pathway. Telia is also working with and encouraging its suppliers to follow suit and, at the end of 2020, companies representing 16% of Telia’s supply chain emissions had set such targets.

These are all important steps on Telia’s journey to zero – where we aim to achieve both zero CO2 and zero waste by 2030. Also, Telia is currently scaling circular initiatives across the organization. According to a recent report by Accenture and Telia, telecommunications companies are uniquely positioned in the ecosystem to act as enablers for other industries to deploy digital and circular solutions while acting on their own negative environmental footprints.

– Applying circular principles is key to address the broader ecological crisis but also to be able to combat climate change. To achieve such a shift we need solid goals but also innovation and extensive collaboration, says Sara Nordbrand.
