Standard Chartered arranges USD 300 million syndicated guarantee for Envision in first sustainable trade finance deal under ICC Principles

(IN BRIEF) Standard Chartered has arranged a syndicated bank guarantee exceeding USD 300 million for Envision Group, supporting the company’s international wind power business and marking the world’s first sustainable trade finance deal aligned with ICC Principles for Sustainable Trade and Trade Finance. Certified by Lianhe Equator for compliance with global sustainability standards, the transaction reinforces Standard Chartered’s leadership in sustainable trade finance and Envision’s role as a green technology pioneer. The collaboration expands on their January 2025 MoU and highlights how financial institutions and renewable energy innovators can work together to accelerate global decarbonisation.

(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 29-Aug-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Standard Chartered has announced the successful arrangement of a syndicated bank guarantee worth more than USD 300 million for Envision Group, marking the world’s first sustainable trade finance deal aligned with the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Principles for Sustainable Trade and Trade Finance. The guarantee will support Envision’s sales and supply of wind power equipment across overseas markets, underscoring the growing convergence of sustainable finance and renewable energy.

The bank acted as mandated lead arranger, structuring bank, agent bank, and sole green facility coordinator, highlighting its central role in driving the transaction. The guarantee also received a second-party opinion from Lianhe Equator, confirming compliance with both ICC’s Principles and the Green Loan Principles of the Loan Market Association (LMA).

Launched in October 2024, the ICC Principles provide the first globally recognised framework for assessing sustainability in trade finance, offering transparency and clear definitions to reduce greenwashing risks. Standard Chartered became the first international bank to adopt the framework in February 2025 and has since actively promoted its adoption across different markets.

Jean Lu, CEO of Standard Chartered China and Executive Vice Chair of the China Board, commented: “We’re pleased to close this landmark transaction for Envision Group, which marks the world’s first sustainable trade finance deal structured under ICC Principles. This deal highlights our commitment to renewable energy and our expertise in cross-border sustainable trade. We will continue to champion the ICC framework and scale sustainable trade finance solutions for our clients worldwide.”

Envision Group, a global green technology leader with businesses spanning smart wind turbines, energy storage, and green hydrogen, welcomed the collaboration. Zhou Hongwen, Founding Partner and Executive Director of Envision Energy, said: “It is a great pleasure to partner with more than ten financial institutions from across the world. This milestone demonstrates the deep integration of green finance and green technology. With the support of global finance, we are accelerating our renewable energy expansion in Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and Latin America, advancing our strategic vision of a green and low-carbon transformation.”

Liu Jingyun, Executive President and General Manager of the Green Finance Business Department at Lianhe Equator, added: “We are honoured to provide certification services for this pioneering transaction. As Standard Chartered’s partner in sustainable finance, we will continue to contribute independent, objective, and valuable assessments to promote the high-quality development of sustainable finance worldwide.”

This transaction builds on the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Standard Chartered China and Envision in January 2025 to deepen strategic collaboration in global markets. By combining strong ESG performance with financial innovation, both organisations aim to accelerate the energy transition and support the global net-zero agenda.
