(PRESS RELEASE) MUNICH, 12-Feb-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Siemens Mobility has received an additional order from Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) for 30 Mireo trains, continuing their partnership under an existing framework agreement. This new order consists of 25 three-car units and five four-car units, expanding ÖBB’s Mireo fleet to a total of 100 trains. These new trains are expected to enter passenger service by 2029, further enhancing ÖBB’s commuter and regional transport network.

With this expansion, Siemens Mobility continues to support ÖBB’s efforts to modernize local and regional rail services in Austria. The Mireo trains, which have already been sold to 23 fleets worldwide, combine modern features with cost-efficiency and superior fleet performance. The Mireo trains are electric multiple-unit vehicles designed for high performance and optimal comfort. Capable of reaching speeds of up to 160 km/h, they will serve not only Austria but also Germany and the Czech Republic. Each train is equipped with the European Train Control System (ETCS) and is designed for maximum passenger comfort with air conditioning, Wi-Fi, barrier-free access, power sockets, and ample space for bicycles, skis, snowboards, baby carriages, and wheelchairs. The new Mireo units for ÖBB will feature wider cars compared to earlier models, offering even more comfort for passengers.
