Ramboll strengthens global water practice by adding 500 specialists through Envidan deal

(IN BRIEF) Ramboll has agreed to acquire Envidan, adding around 500 specialists and significantly strengthening its global water practice, particularly across Denmark, Norway and Sweden. The deal expands Ramboll’s expertise in water and wastewater treatment, climate adaptation, water infrastructure and digital water solutions, bringing its total global workforce to more than 18,000 experts. Envidan’s strong Nordic presence and technology-driven consulting, turnkey and software capabilities complement Ramboll’s international platform, enabling a broader range of integrated solutions for water security, aging infrastructure, climate resilience and regulatory challenges. The acquisition is described as transformational for Ramboll’s water business and reflects growing global demand for sustainable, end-to-end water management solutions.

(PRESS RELEASE) COPENHAGEN, 8-Jan-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Ramboll has signed an agreement to acquire Envidan from European private equity firm Waterland and a group of minority shareholders, significantly expanding its global water practice and deepening its expertise across Denmark, Norway and Sweden. Through the transaction, Ramboll will add around 500 water specialists, reinforcing its capabilities in climate adaptation, water infrastructure, water resources management, and advanced water and wastewater treatment.

With Envidan joining the group, Ramboll’s international consultancy operations will grow to more than 18,000 experts worldwide, creating one of the most comprehensive water and environmental advisory platforms globally. Envidan brings a strong Nordic footprint and a technology-driven approach spanning consultancy services, turnkey delivery and digital solutions, covering the full water cycle from supply and treatment to wastewater management, climate adaptation and nature-based solutions.

Ramboll Group CEO Jens-Peter Saul described the acquisition as a transformational step for the company’s water business, noting that water security, climate resilience and regulatory pressure are rapidly intensifying worldwide. By combining Ramboll’s global reach with Envidan’s specialist expertise, the group aims to offer fully integrated solutions that address aging infrastructure, stricter water quality requirements and the growing impacts of climate change on water systems.

Envidan CEO Ole Adeler said the move brings together two highly complementary organisations with shared values and a strong sustainability focus. He highlighted that Envidan’s long-standing strengths across the entire water cycle, combined with Ramboll’s international platform, will enable the delivery of even greater value for utilities, municipalities, industries and communities across the Nordics and beyond.

Waterland, which has owned Envidan for the past five years, noted that the transaction marks the next phase in Envidan’s development following a successful expansion from a primarily Danish consultancy into a leading Nordic water specialist through a focused buy-and-build strategy.

The transaction is subject to customary regulatory approvals.
