Avior selects Ramboll for the Tromsø airport expansion

Continued traffic growth and a central location in Norway makes the planned expansion of Tromsø airport a high priority.

COPENHAGEN, 26-Oct-2018 — /EuropaWire/ — Located in the largest city of northern Norway, Tromsø airport constitutes a central connection point between the north and south of Norway and an entry point to the world north of the Arctic Circle. But due to continued traffic growth in the north, the airport needs to be expanded to accommodate the many travellers in the future.

Now, the expansion project has reached an important milestone, as Avior has selected Ramboll and Nordic – Office of Architecture as design consultants. The contract covers all architecture and engineering services including follow-up during the construction phase. The project will run from mid-2018 to 2022.

Utilising our expertise

“With both consultants and local project management in place, we are now very well prepared for the project,” says Thorgeir Landevaag, Director of Avinor. “The project is high priority because of the continued traffic growth in the northern region, and we look forward to increased capacity and better facilities in Tromsø.”

According to Lars Riemann, Global Aviation Director in Ramboll, the project is a welcome opportunity to utilise our knowledge as well as extend our collaboration in the Nordic countries and develop our expertise.

“We have worked on some of the most challenging airport projects around the world,” he says. “In Tromsø we can draw on that experience and bring together experts from Norway, Denmark and Sweden to ensure the delivery of a cutting-edge airport.”
