(PRESS RELEASE) COPENHAGEN, 23-Sep-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Ramboll has joined the UN-led Green Jobs for Youth Pact, a partnership with the International Labour Organization (ILO), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and UNICEF, committing to train 1,000 students and young professionals by 2025. This initiative aims to address the critical skills shortage in the growing low-carbon economy, which the ILO estimates could create 8.4 million green jobs for young people by 2030. Currently, over 60% of young people lack the necessary skills to succeed in this emerging sector.

The Green Jobs for Youth Pact brings together governments, private businesses, social partners, and young people to create sustainable job opportunities and tackle the climate crisis. As part of its commitment, Ramboll will focus on empowering women and underserved communities by providing training in sustainable engineering, decarbonization, and biodiversity restoration.

Lone Tvis, Chief People Officer at Ramboll, emphasized the role of young people in combating climate change, stating: “Though they didn’t create the crisis, young people will be key to solving it. By partnering with the Green Jobs for Youth Pact, Ramboll is investing in the next generation of sustainability leaders and helping close the skills gap in the low-carbon economy.”

Ramboll’s initiatives include working with local schools in the US to promote STEM education, supporting UK youth through the Fest Hub programme, and hosting innovation challenges with university students. Initially targeting the US, UK, and India, Ramboll plans to expand these efforts to additional countries by 2025.

Susana Puerto, Senior Youth Employment Specialist at the ILO, noted that collaborations with the private sector are vital to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals and fostering a new generation of environmentally conscious leaders.
