(PRESS RELEASE) AMSTERDAM, 21-Jan-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Prosus joined leading digital platform companies operating across more than 100 countries at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2026 to launch a set of global principles aimed at guiding the responsible development of the platform-enabled economy. Introduced on the sidelines of the meeting, the principles reflect a shared, values-driven commitment to fair, inclusive, and sustainable growth as digital platforms continue to reshape how people work and earn income worldwide.

As platform-based business models scale rapidly and enable new forms of work, participating companies aligned around a common framework intended to promote responsible leadership and long-term innovation. The principles are designed to support constructive dialogue with policymakers and stakeholders while encouraging consistent standards across diverse markets and regions.

The initiative builds on earlier contributions to the global conversation on the future of work. At the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in 2025, Prosus published the Livelihoods in a Digital World report, which highlighted best practices among platforms offering flexible, technology-enabled income opportunities, while also examining challenges related to fairness, worker protections, and regulation within the gig economy.

The newly launched principles were co-developed by platform companies and are structured around three core pillars that balance innovation with choice, fairness, and opportunity. Together, they aim to improve outcomes for platform workers while supporting economic participation and social progress across different geographies.

The first pillar focuses on access and opportunity, recognizing the role platforms can play in lowering barriers to work and enabling flexibility. By allowing individuals to decide when, where, and how much they work, platforms can expand participation and provide greater autonomy within the labor market.

The second pillar addresses earnings and benefits, emphasizing the importance of transparent, fair, and timely compensation, alongside access to appropriate protections and benefits that support sustainable livelihoods.

The third pillar centers on the platform working environment, calling for safe, respectful, and supportive conditions. This includes access to training, safety tools, wellbeing initiatives, and mechanisms that ensure platform workers have a meaningful voice.

The principles represent an initial step toward deeper industry alignment and collaboration. Under the Future of Jobs Initiative, participating companies plan to continue engagement with a broad range of stakeholders to advance fairness, inclusion, and sustainability across the evolving platform-enabled economy.
