Ørsted Appoints Rasmus Errboe as CEO to Lead Through Renewable Energy Transformation

(IN BRIEF) Ørsted has announced Rasmus Errboe as its new Group President and CEO, effective February 1, 2025, following Mads Nipper’s decision to step down. The leadership change comes as Ørsted faces a rapidly evolving renewable energy market, particularly in offshore wind, with challenges such as supply chain issues and regulatory changes. Rasmus Errboe, a long-time Ørsted executive with extensive experience in the energy sector, will guide the company through this transition, focusing on advancing the green energy agenda. Nipper’s tenure saw significant growth in Ørsted’s renewable capacity, and Errboe’s leadership is expected to further the company’s sustainability goals. Ørsted will release its 2024 annual report on February 6, 2025.

(PRESS RELEASE) FREDERICIA, 31-Jan-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Ørsted has announced the appointment of Rasmus Errboe as the company’s new Group President and CEO, effective February 1, 2025. Rasmus, currently serving as Deputy CEO and Chief Commercial Officer, will succeed Mads Nipper, who has led the company since January 2021 and will step down at the end of this month.

The decision to appoint Errboe follows a strategic review by Ørsted’s Board of Directors, led by Lene Skole, in light of the evolving renewable energy landscape. Skole explained that the growing challenges within the offshore wind sector, including supply chain bottlenecks, rising interest rates, and regulatory shifts, prompted the board to believe that now is the right time for leadership transition. She expressed confidence that Errboe, with his extensive experience and deep understanding of Ørsted’s operations, is well-equipped to guide the company through the next phase of growth.

Errboe, who has been with Ørsted since 2012, has a comprehensive background in the energy industry, having served in various leadership roles. He was Interim Group CFO, Regional Head of Europe, and Head of Ørsted’s M&A department, and played a crucial role in Ørsted’s IPO in 2016. As CEO, he will focus on continuing the company’s commitment to the green transition, particularly advancing offshore wind as a cornerstone of Ørsted’s vision for a world powered by renewable energy.

“I am deeply honored to step into this new role and look forward to leading Ørsted in these transformative times,” said Errboe. “Together with our talented team, we will continue to deliver sustainable value for our customers, stakeholders, and the global community.”

Lene Skole also took the opportunity to acknowledge Mads Nipper’s contributions, noting that during his tenure, Ørsted increased its installed renewable capacity from 11.3 GW in 2021 to an expected 18.2 GW by 2025. Nipper, reflecting on his time at the company, expressed his gratitude to Ørsted’s employees and wished Errboe and the team success in their future endeavors.

Rasmus Errboe’s leadership journey at Ørsted has been marked by key milestones, including overseeing the company’s IPO and its strategic divestment from the Oil & Gas business. His academic credentials include a Master of Law from Copenhagen University and an MBA from the University of San Diego.

Ørsted’s annual report for 2024 is set to be published on February 6, 2025.
