Leoni creates jobs with expansion of electromobility cable production in Mexico

(IN BRIEF) Leoni, a global provider of energy and data management solutions in the automotive sector, has expanded its production of automotive cables at its location in Cuauhtémoc, Mexico. The expansion, which was necessary to meet increasing demand for electromobility cables, includes a 40% increase in production area to 10,723 m² and an investment of approximately USD 16.8 million in corresponding production equipment. The expansion also includes the creation of at least 30 new jobs. The expansion was celebrated with a ceremony attended by government officials and company leaders.

(PRESS RELEASE) NUREMBERG/ CUAUHTÉMOC, Mexico, 24-Jan-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — Leoni AG (ETR: LEO), a global supplier of wires, cables and wiring systems, celebrated the expansion of its automotive cables production at its location in Cuauhtémoc, Mexico. The celebration was attended by the Governor of Chihuahua Maria Eugenia Campos, the Secretary of State for Economic Affairs Maria Angelica Granados, the Local Deputy Saul Mireles and the Deputy Mayor of Cuauhtémoc, Elias Humberto Perez.

Since its foundation in 1998, Leoni Cable in Cuauhtémoc, Mexico has become an important player in the automotive cables business in NAFTA. The company offers a broad product portfolio that ranges from simple single core cables to complex multi-core cables for driver assistance systems and data cables for autonomous driving, meeting the needs of Tier 1 and Tier 2 customers in North America. With the increasing demand for electromobility cables, the company has invested in the expansion of its production facilities.

In 2020, Phase I of a project called EMOMEX (E-Mobility Mexico) was accomplished. This included an investment of USD 27 million in equipment and machines for the design, development and production of high-voltage cables and cables for charging systems. As a result of this investment, more than 120 new highly-qualified employees were hired.

With the growing demand for these products, Leoni has now expanded its production area by over 40% to 10,723 m². In the next five years, the company will invest approximately USD 16.8 million in corresponding production equipment, creating at least 30 new jobs in the process.

At the occasion of the opening ceremony, Bill Livengood, President of Leoni Cables North America, once again expressed his gratitude for the excellent cooperation with the state of Chihuahua and the city of Cuauhtémoc.
