Infineon Expands SiC Portfolio with New CoolSiC™ JFETs for Advanced Power Distribution Systems

(IN BRIEF) Infineon Technologies is expanding its silicon carbide (SiC) portfolio with the introduction of the new CoolSiC™ JFET product family. These devices are designed to minimize conduction losses, improve turn-off capability, and provide high robustness, making them ideal for advanced power distribution systems in industrial and automotive applications. Key features include ultra-low R DS(ON), high short-circuit capability, and thermal stability, which are crucial for applications such as solid-state circuit breakers and motor soft starters. The first generation of CoolSiC JFETs will be available as engineering samples later in 2025, with mass production expected in 2026. Infineon will showcase these devices at PCIM Europe 2025 in Nuremberg.

(PRESS RELEASE) MUNICH, 5-May-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Infineon Technologies is enhancing its leadership in power semiconductor solutions by unveiling its new CoolSiC™ JFET product family, which builds upon the company’s existing portfolio of silicon carbide (SiC) technology. These new devices are engineered to minimize conduction losses, bolster turn-off capabilities, and provide exceptional robustness, making them an ideal solution for next-generation power distribution systems. Infineon’s CoolSiC JFETs are tailored to meet the growing demands for reliability, speed, and durability in both industrial and automotive applications, including solid-state circuit breakers, motor soft starters, eFuses, and AI data center hot-swaps.

The CoolSiC JFET family promises superior performance, with the first-generation devices offering impressively low R DS(ON), starting at 1.5 mΩ for 750 V BDss and 2.3 mΩ for 1200 V BDss. These ultra-low values significantly reduce conduction losses, which translates to better energy efficiency and lower operational costs for various power systems. Additionally, these devices are designed to operate reliably under short-circuit and avalanche failure conditions, making them ideal for mission-critical applications that require robust performance and stability.

Housed in the Q-DPAK top-side cooled package, these SiC JFETs support easy paralleling, scalable current handling, and flexible integration. Infineon has leveraged its advanced .XT interconnection technology with diffusion soldering, improving transient thermal impedance and making the devices well-suited to handle the thermal challenges of industrial power systems. This makes the CoolSiC JFETs a perfect fit for the dynamic and evolving needs of both industrial and automotive power distribution systems.

The first engineering samples of these CoolSiC JFETs are expected to be available later in 2025, with mass production scheduled for 2026. The product family will be on display at PCIM Europe 2025 in Nuremberg, and more information will be available at Infineon’s booth.

Availability

Engineering samples of the new CoolSiC JFET family will be available later in 2025, with volume production starting in 2026. The product portfolio will be further expanded with a variety of packages and modules. The product family will be demonstrated at the Infineon booth at PCIM Europe 2025 in Nuremberg.
