INEOS Inovyn Partners with Daimler to Trial Hydrogen Trucks, Paving Way for Zero-Emission Transport

(IN BRIEF) INEOS Inovyn, Europe’s leading PVC producer, is partnering with Daimler to trial the Mercedes-Benz GenH2 hydrogen trucks, aiming to enhance heavy-duty transport’s sustainability. Over the next 12 months, INEOS will make around 250 deliveries using these trucks in the Rheinberg area, with plans to expand to Belgium and the Netherlands. The trial, involving other major companies like Amazon and Air Products, will help understand fuel-cell technology in real-life operations, advancing the hydrogen-based zero-emission future. INEOS emphasizes the need for government support to develop low-carbon hydrogen solutions further.

(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 26-Jul-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — INEOS Inovyn, Europe’s leader in PVC production and industrial electrolysis, is partnering with Daimler to trial the Mercedes-Benz GenH2 hydrogen trucks. Over the next 12 months, INEOS will make around 250 deliveries using these trucks, primarily in the Rheinberg area, with plans to extend the trial to Belgium and the Netherlands. The initiative aims to advance the use of hydrogen in heavy-duty transport, contributing to a zero-emission future.

Wouter Bleukx, Business Director Hydrogen at INEOS Inovyn, stated, “Hydrogen is a game-changing energy solution that will transform truck transportation and help us achieve a zero-emission future. As both a major producer and consumer of low-carbon hydrogen, INEOS is in a unique position to help drive this change. We are delighted to be working with Daimler Truck.”

The Mercedes-Benz GenH2 Trucks, the first heavy-duty liquid hydrogen trucks in Europe, offer a range of over 1000 km and can carry the same payload as conventional diesel vehicles. Alongside partners like Amazon, Air Products, Holcim, and Wiedmann & Winz, INEOS is involved in running Daimler’s first trial fleet in Germany.

INEOS’s commitment to reaching Net Zero is underscored by this pioneering trial, which provides their PVC customers with the opportunity to reduce Scope 3 emissions and enhance their green credentials. INEOS, a significant player in hydrogen production and storage with over 125 years of experience, continues to lead innovations in creating a cleaner energy ecosystem. However, they emphasize the need for government support to further develop infrastructure and business confidence in low-carbon hydrogen solutions.
