These awards recognize Hudong Zhonghua’s innovative designs for a range of vessels, including an Ultra Large Ethane Carrier (ULEC), a Liquefied Carbon Dioxide (LCO2) carrier, a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) bunker vessel, and a Very Large Ammonia Carrier (VLAC). These advancements highlight Hudong Zhonghua’s commitment to addressing global energy demands with sustainable solutions, supported by their long-standing partnership with DNV.

(PRESS RELEASE) BÆRUM, 4-Sep-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — At the SMM trade fair, Hudong Zhonghua Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, received significant accolades from DNV with the award of three Approval in Principle (AiP) certificates and one General Approval for Ship Application (GASA) certificate. These awards acknowledge the shipbuilder’s innovative designs, which are poised to address the challenges of the evolving global energy market.

The AiP certificates were granted for Hudong Zhonghua’s designs of a 150,000 CBM Ultra Large Ethane Carrier (ULEC), a 40,000 CBM Liquefied Carbon Dioxide (LCO2) carrier, and a 20,000 CBM Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) bunker vessel. These certifications confirm the feasibility of the designs and their readiness for further development. The GASA certificate was awarded for an 88,000 CBM Very Large Ammonia Carrier (VLAC), a design that emerged from a Joint Development Project between DNV and Hudong Zhonghua.

These innovative designs reflect Hudong Zhonghua’s commitment to sustainability and its strategic response to the rising global demand for energy transport solutions. The vessels are designed to meet the increasing needs for VLECs, VLACs, LNG carriers, and LCO2 carriers, essential for the safe and efficient transport of vital energy resources.
