(PRESS RELEASE) HOOFDDORP, 9-Nov-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — FedEx Express Swiss Post, the joint venture between FedEx Express and Swiss Post, has announced plans to open a new facility in Gossau, in the canton of St. Gallen, by Autumn 2025. This modern facility will combine the operational and administrative functions of two existing sites in Wängi and Münchwilen, increasing FedEx Express Swiss Post’s capacity to handle growing shipment volumes, including those from larger clients.

The facility, spanning around 14,500 square meters, includes 3,600 square meters of operating and warehouse space and 400 square meters of office space. It will feature three loading bays for trucks and 40 for vans, boosting hourly sorting capacity by over 30% compared to current operations. Approximately 35 in-house employees and 10 couriers from business partners will work at the new location in a state-of-the-art, comfortable environment.

Sustainability is a priority in the new Gossau facility. A photovoltaic system covering 3,400 square meters will generate renewable energy, and charging stations will support the future use of electric vehicles. During construction, environmentally friendly practices were emphasized, including recycling some excavated materials for the building foundation.

This project follows FedEx Express Swiss Post’s recent investment in a facility in Dällikon, Zurich. Stefan Dries, FedEx Vice President for Ground Operations in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Benelux, stated, “This facility enhances our ability to serve our customers, especially in the e-commerce sector, and supports their growth.” Ron Willemsen, Managing Director of Ground Operations for Switzerland and Austria, added that the site will provide employees with a modern working environment and customers with enhanced service.

FedEx Express Swiss Post provides a broad range of time-definite services, including overnight delivery to the U.S., delivery to over 50,000 European postcodes, and door-to-door service within Switzerland.
