(PRESS RELEASE) ESSEN, 11-Dec-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — DB Schenker, a global leader in logistics services, is taking a major step towards sustainable logistics by adding 40 Volvo FM Electric trucks to its fleet in Germany. These 20-ton electric trucks, capable of operating with trailers, are designed for both urban and regional deliveries, supporting the company’s commitment to low-emission transport solutions. The new vehicles will be deployed across the country starting December 2024.

Cyrille Bonjean, Executive Vice President of Land Transport at DB Schenker in Europe, remarked, “By integrating 40 additional electric Volvos into our last-mile delivery fleet, we reinforce our dedication to driving the shift toward sustainable energy and strengthen our partnership with Volvo Trucks. This expansion allows us to offer environmentally friendly transport options to our customers nationwide.”

This move is part of DB Schenker’s broader strategy to invest in innovative, low-emission transport solutions across land, air, and sea freight to meet the rising demand for sustainable supply chains. The Volvo FM Electric trucks will significantly contribute to reducing CO₂ emissions in land transport. Additionally, their quiet operation compared to traditional combustion engines makes them particularly suited for urban environments.

Ralf Többe, Head of Land Transport Cluster for Germany and Switzerland at DB Schenker, emphasized, “By adding these 40 Volvo FM Electric trucks to our fleet, we are sending a strong signal for a sustainable future in logistics in Germany. This move demonstrates that low-emission logistics solutions are achievable on a large scale today, thanks to our investments and expertise.”

Power, Range, and Comfort

The Volvo FM Electric trucks offer up to 490 kW of power, ensuring efficient and smooth operation, even with heavy loads. The trucks feature a remarkable range, with a single battery charge covering up to 300 kilometers, making them ideal for various collection and delivery needs within DB Schenker’s groupage network.

For the first time, DB Schenker is introducing electric trucks with trailer capability for last-mile delivery in Germany. This innovation enables the replacement of diesel vehicles with trailers, expanding the scope of electric vehicle applications. With fast recharging options, the trucks can be fully charged in about 9.5 hours with alternating current or in just 2.5 hours with direct current, ensuring operational flexibility.

Designed for driver comfort and safety, the Volvo FM Electric trucks feature spacious cabins equipped with advanced safety systems, providing a comfortable, health-supportive environment for drivers. Feedback from drivers has been overwhelmingly positive, reinforcing the benefits of this new fleet addition.

The deployment of these 40 Volvo FM Electric trucks marks a significant milestone in DB Schenker’s journey towards a more sustainable logistics future in Germany.
