BPM, Sámi Blood and Western announced finalists for the 2017 Lux Film Prize

BRUSSELS, 27-Jul-2017 — /EuropaWire/ — The three films competing for the 2017 Lux Film Prize were announced on 25 July in Rome during the Giornate degli Autori (Venice Days) by Antonio Tajani, President of the European Parliament

BPM (Beats per minute) by Robin Campillo (France), Sámi Blood by Amanda Kernell (Sweden, Norway, Denmark) and Western by Valeska Grisebach (Germany, Bulgaria, Austria) are the three films competing for the 2017 Lux Film Prize.

The announcement was made on 25 July in Rome during the Giornate degli Autori (Venice Days) press conference by Antonio Tajani, President of the European Parliament. The three finalist films will be subtitled in all 24 EU official languages and will be screened during the LUX Film Days in more than 50 cities and several festivals across 28 EU countries.

“The Lux Prize not only brings cinema closer to citizens, but Europe to Europeans. Through this prize, the EP promotes and supports Europe’s film industry, at a time when it is threatened by the ever-growing presence of online platforms, which are subject to little regulation compared to the traditional film sector. Our European identity is made up of different traditions and cultures, but also of common values: justice, freedom, tolerance. Since its creation, the Lux Prize has included hundreds of directors, distributors and producers, all reinforcing and giving strength to our unique European identity”, President Tajani said.

The film awarded the 2017 Lux Prize will be selected by MEPs and announced on 15 November during the EP plenary session in Strasbourg, in the presence of the film directors. It will be adapted for the visually and hearing impaired and it will receive support for international promotion as well as receiving promotional support during its international release.

European promotion

This year’s LUX Film Days will take advantage of the cooperation between the European Parliament Information Offices and the Creative Europe MEDIA Desks, to strengthen visibility and broaden the audience.

28 Times Cinema
