TotalEnergies Signs Offshore Exploration Cooperation Deal With EGAS to Assess Egypt’s Deepwater Potential

(IN BRIEF) TotalEnergies and the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to cooperate on offshore exploration activities in northwestern Egypt. The agreement establishes a framework for technical collaboration focused on preliminary exploration and subsurface evaluation work in a large offshore area with potential deepwater natural gas resources. The partnership reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen energy cooperation between Egypt and international energy companies as the country continues expanding its role as a regional energy hub in the eastern Mediterranean.

(PRESS RELEASE) PARIS, 13-May-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — TotalEnergies and the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening cooperation on offshore natural gas exploration activities in Egypt.

The agreement covers a large offshore area located in the northwestern part of Egypt’s maritime territory and establishes a framework for joint technical collaboration focused on preliminary exploration work and subsurface evaluation activities.

Under the terms of the MoU, the companies will work together to assess the geological and exploration potential of the offshore region, particularly in deepwater areas that may contain untapped natural gas resources. The cooperation is expected to support broader efforts to further develop Egypt’s offshore energy sector and strengthen long-term collaboration between TotalEnergies and Egyptian energy authorities.

Nicola Mavilla, Senior Vice President Exploration at TotalEnergies, stated that the agreement reflects the shared ambition of both parties to deepen their partnership with the Arab Republic of Egypt and advance the assessment of the country’s deep offshore exploration opportunities.

Egypt has become an increasingly important regional energy hub in recent years due to major offshore gas discoveries in the eastern Mediterranean and ongoing investments in natural gas infrastructure, liquefied natural gas exports, and exploration activities. International energy companies continue to expand exploration programs in the country as demand for natural gas and energy security remains a priority across global markets.

Headquartered in Paris, TotalEnergies operates across the oil, natural gas, renewable energy, electricity, biofuels, biogas, and low-carbon hydrogen sectors. The company employs more than 100,000 people and maintains operations in approximately 120 countries worldwide, with sustainability and energy transition initiatives forming part of its long-term strategy.
