AI-Powered Traffic Data Initiative in Switzerland Moves Forward with AFRY’s Expertise and ASE AG Implementation

(IN BRIEF) AFRY has been selected as a subcontractor to ASE AG for a major initiative in Switzerland aimed at enhancing traffic data analysis through artificial intelligence. Commissioned by the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO), the project forms part of the country’s broader digitalization strategy for national road infrastructure. By analyzing extensive and varied traffic datasets, the work will enable improved forecasts, better impact assessments, and stronger evidence-based planning for future mobility needs. ASE AG leads the project with AFRY and the University of Applied Sciences of the Grisons contributing technical expertise. AFRY’s involvement, valued at around 3.5 MSEK, supports a programme running from late 2025 to 2029 that seeks to modernize and strengthen operational traffic management across Switzerland.

(PRESS RELEASE) SOLNA, 20-Nov-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — AFRY has secured a subcontract from ASE AG (Analysis Simulation Engineering AG) to support an ambitious new initiative that will apply artificial intelligence to nationwide traffic data analysis in Switzerland. The Federal Roads Office (FEDRO) is moving forward with plans to modernize the way long-term infrastructure decisions are informed by deep, data-driven insights, marking an important step in Switzerland’s digital transformation of its road network.

Under this initiative, advanced AI tools will be deployed to examine large volumes of complex traffic datasets from across the national road system. The project is designed to strengthen the digitalization of traffic management by uncovering meaningful patterns in both existing and newly gathered data. These insights are intended to improve the understanding of traffic behavior, produce more precise impact assessments, and guide long-term planning efforts with stronger evidence.

Through this work, FEDRO aims to generate reliable traffic forecasts and formulate practical recommendations that will help shape the future of traffic operations and infrastructure development. The overall implementation mandate has been granted to ASE AG, with AFRY and the University of Applied Sciences of the Grisons (FHGR) providing specialist expertise throughout the project.

Marcel Winter, SVP and Head of Segment Road & Rail at AFRY, highlighted the significance of the collaboration, noting that the team is proud to support a project that strengthens the digital evolution of transport planning. He emphasized that AFRY’s technical contributions will play an important role in elevating both the efficiency and quality of traffic operations.

AFRY’s subcontract is valued at approximately 3.5 MSEK, and the project is planned to run from November 2025 through October 2029.
