(IN BRIEF) Le Havre Seine Métropole has chosen Alstom to supply eight new-generation Citadis trams as part of a four-year framework agreement. These modern trams, which are set to begin delivery in 2027 with the introduction of line C, will expand the region’s tram network while replacing older rolling stock. Designed to offer improved passenger comfort and enhanced accessibility, each 33-meter-long tram accommodates 206 passengers with features such as fully glazed doors, 100% full low-floor access, and facilities that comply with PRM regulations. With advanced lighting, air conditioning, and state-of-the-art onboard systems for information and security, the new Citadis trams promise a greener solution by reducing energy consumption by 25% compared to current models. Additionally, eco-design principles ensure high recyclability and reusability, along with a reduction in preventive maintenance operations over the trams’ 30-year service life. Production involves ten of Alstom’s sites in France, leveraging the expertise built on a global portfolio that has already delivered over 3,000 trams in 70 cities worldwide.

(PRESS RELEASE) SAINT-OUEN-SUR-SEINE, 19-Mar-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Alstom, a global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, has been selected by Le Havre Seine Métropole to provide a new fleet of cutting-edge Citadis trams as part of an extension of its tramway network. Under a four-year framework agreement, the intercommunal body centered in Le Havre will receive a minimum order of eight new-generation trams. These state-of-the-art Citadis trams are designed to be energy-efficient, boasting a 25% reduction in energy consumption compared to the current rolling stock. The inaugural delivery is scheduled for 2027, coinciding with the launch of the new line C.

In a statement, Frédéric Wiscart, President of Alstom France, expressed pride in being chosen for the project: “Alstom is very proud to be supplying the new trams for Le Havre Metropole and to be taking part in strengthening the urban transport offer with greener and more innovative solutions. These new energy-efficient Citadis trams will also provide greater comfort for passengers. We would like to thank Le Havre Seine Métropole for their renewed confidence in our latest generation tramway solutions.”

Engineered with the well-being of travelers in mind, these 33-meter-long and 2.40-meter-wide trams can accommodate 206 passengers and feature fully glazed doors for enhanced safety and comfort. Adhering to People with Reduced Mobility (PRM) regulations, the vehicles offer 100% full low-floor access for smooth onboard movement, alongside door opening buttons at an optimal height, wider seating, and dedicated spaces for wheelchair users and pushchairs. The trams are also equipped with signature lighting both inside and out to clearly indicate door operations, as well as loudspeakers and acoustic signals to aid visually and hearing-impaired passengers. Additional features include air conditioning, a dynamic passenger information system, and an integrated video protection system.

Alongside their superior service features, the Citadis trams deliver significant energy savings through advanced engine technology, climate control systems, and 100% LED lighting. They are eco-designed with 95% recyclability and 98% reusability, and maintenance is streamlined to achieve a 16% reduction in preventive operations over a 30-year service life through simplified spare parts management and enhanced component accessibility.

Manufactured and assembled in France, these trams are produced across ten of Alstom’s sixteen sites. Key production facilities include La Rochelle for design and assembly, Le Creusot for bogies, Ornans for engines, Villeurbanne for onboard electronics and cybersecurity, Aix-en-Provence for tacho centres, Tarbes for electrical equipment, Alstom IBRE in Sens for brake discs, Alstom Flertex in Gennevilliers and Saint-Florentin for brake linings, Valenciennes for spare parts, and Saint-Ouen for design and after-sales service. The Citadis portfolio, which has already seen more than 3,000 trams ordered in 70 cities across 20 countries, has collectively traveled over 1 billion kilometres and served 10 billion passengers since its inception in 2000.
