(IN BRIEF) TagEnergy has awarded Vestas the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract for the second stage of the Golden Plains Wind Farm in Australia. This stage will include 93 Vestas V162-6.2 MW wind turbines, adding 577 MW to the initial 756 MW, resulting in a total of 1.3 GW, making it Vestas’ largest onshore wind farm project.

Vestas will also provide a 30-year service and maintenance agreement to ensure optimal energy production. The delivery of turbines for the second stage is expected to start in early 2025, with commissioning beginning in early 2026. Both Vestas and TagEnergy have expressed their commitment to the project and to advancing Australia’s renewable energy future.

(PRESS RELEASE) AARHUS, 19-Jun-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — In a significant development for renewable energy in Australia, TagEnergy has awarded Vestas the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract for the second stage of the Golden Plains Wind Farm. This stage will feature 93 of Vestas’ advanced V162-6.2 MW wind turbines from the EnVentus platform, underscoring the robust partnership between the two companies.

Vestas, already responsible for the 756 MW EPC contract for the first stage of the wind farm, will extend its contribution by an additional 577 MW. This extension will bring the total capacity to 1.3 GW, marking the project as Vestas’ largest onshore wind farm to date.

Upon the completion of both stages, Vestas will also enter into a 30-year service and maintenance agreement (AOM5000) to ensure optimal energy production for the Australian grid, reflecting its long-term commitment to the project and the region’s sustainable energy future.

Purvin Patel, President of Vestas Asia Pacific, expressed his enthusiasm: “Through our best-in-class people, wind turbines, and capabilities, Vestas is delighted to build and service this landmark project. As the world’s largest provider of wind energy, we have always been committed to Australia’s sustainable future and we thank TagEnergy, and our subcontractor partners, for joining us in this world-changing mission.”

Andrew Riggs, Managing Director of TagEnergy, commended Vestas’ role in the project: “The diligence and expertise of Vestas, who leveraged world-leading practices developed during the adjacent 756 MW Golden Plains Wind Farm Stage 1, ushered the success of financial close for Stage 2. We look forward to continuing to work with Vestas.”

The delivery of Vestas’ wind turbines for the second stage of the Golden Plains Wind Farm is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2025, with commissioning slated to commence in the first quarter of 2026.
