With three premieres at Bauma 2013 Mercedes-Benz celebrates the completion of its custom-designed trucks and vans for the construction industry

  • Tailor-made solutions ex factory: custom-designed trucks and vans cover all applications on the construction site
  • Construction vehicles presented on an area of some 2000 square metres at Bauma exhibition site (Hall B4 and exterior grounds)
  • Premiere 1: Mercedes-Benz Arocs stands for power, robustness and efficiency in heavy-duty construction transport
  • Premiere 2: Mercedes-Benz Atego with seven Euro VI engines is the benchmark in the 6.5 t to 16 t perm. GVW segment
  • Premiere 3: Mercedes-Benz Citan for the construction industry

Stuttgart/Munich, 25-3-2013 — /europawire.eu/ — With three premieres at Bauma 2013 Mercedes-Benz is celebrating the completion of its custom-designed range for the construction industry: With these vehicles Mercedes-Benz offers characteristic construction-trade configurations ex factory. Right down to the last detail they are tailored to meet the specific customer requirements in the construction industry and ancillary trades. Alongside the heavy-duty construction specialist, the new Arocs, and numerous variants of the Citan MPV widely used in the construction industry, the new Atego is now also celebrating its premiere for customers in Germany at Bauma 2013. From 15 – 21 April 2013 the new stars can be seen in Hall B4 and the adjoining outdoor area.

Impressive: three premieres with the Mercedes star

The highlight at Bauma 2013 is the premiere of the two new truck model series, the Mercedes-Benz Arocs and Atego, and of the Mercedes-Benz Citan MPV variants for the construction industry. In their respective sectors they set a new benchmark where efficiency and reliability are concerned. In order to demonstrate these strengths six Arocs vehicles specifically configured and equipped for heavy-duty applications on the construction site and for transporting construction machinery and materials are being displayed. Two Atego models set a new benchmark in medium-duty construction transport. The new Mercedes-Benz Citan completes the range of premieres with three examples of equipment characteristic of the construction industry. It assumes an important role in particular for the construction trade and for transporting workers to the construction site.

New: Mercedes-Benz Arocs – power, robustness, efficiency
For road-oriented use as well as real off-road applications in the construction sector the Mercedes-Benz Arocs vehicle series has been completely redeveloped. The trucks and tractor units are available as two-, three- and four-axle models with a distinctive design, seven S-, M- and L-cabs in 14 variants and two cab widths. Four-axle versions with permanent and selectable all-wheel drive and two steered front axles, four-axle versions with one front and three rear axles, a wide range of air-sprung vehicles or payload-optimised concrete mixer chassis with a single-tyred drive tandem are some examples of the range of Arocs variants available ex factory.

Powerful BlueTec 6 engines are available in 16 output categories. Four displacements from 7.7 l to 15.6 l facilitate Euro VI engine outputs ranging from 175 kW (238 hp) to 460 kW (625 hp). For the first time in a construction vehicle the engine output is transferred as standard by an automated Mercedes PowerShift 3 transmission. As an alternative the newly developed manual transmission with Bowden cable technology is available as an option. Two product groups are available for the Arocs: it is offered as the payload-optimised Loader for weight-sensitive applications and as the particularly robustly designed Grounder for extremely harsh construction site use.

New: Mercedes-Benz Atego – value, efficiency, dedication
With extensive optimisations to the chassis, rear axle guide, cab mountings and a new steering system the new Atego sets new standards when it comes to driving dynamics, handling safety and comfort. The new Atego is available in 42 basic models ex factory – with four cabs in three lengths and a multitude of different wheelbases. Newly developed BlueEfficiency Power Euro VI engines with four and six cylinders cover the wide spectrum from 115 kW (156 hp) to 220 kW (299 hp) in seven output variants. For special applications in the construction industry, in municipal and off-road use the new all-wheel drive variants with permanent or selectable all-wheel drive are of particular interest.

Where economy is concerned the new Atego builds on its current top rating and with Euro VI it also reaches the benchmark position in its class. In spite of sophisticated Euro VI technology its fuel consumption is up to five percent below that of its predecessor. With significantly reduced service contract costs and the lowest levels of maintenance work in the entire vehicle segment, with maintenance intervals of up to 120,000 km depending on the application specification and requirement profile, and not least with high residual values the new star in construction-site short-radius distribution will contribute towards a healthy balance sheet throughout its working life.

New: Mercedes-Benz Citan – the joy of space for the construction industry
A wide output spectrum, visible and tangible quality, safety combined with ride comfort, low operating costs and high economy, environmentally friendly thanks to minimal CO2 emission values – the new Citan takes small groups of construction workers, tradespeople and material for shell construction and interior building work right to the doorstep – even on construction sites in environmentally sensitive city-centre zones. It can be registered as a passenger car or as a commercial vehicle. A particular advantage is that in narrow construction site areas the Citan is extremely manoeuvrable thanks to its compact dimensions.

The driving characteristics of the Citan are dynamic and comfortable. With up to six airbags, adaptive ESP and many other details it is also especially safe. For the panel van variants, the variable five-seater Mixto and the Citan crewbus with a glass sidewall and tailgate there are three powerful diesel engines and a supercharged direct petrol injection unit. Thanks to BlueEfficiency technology the engines impress with the lowest fuel consumption figures in this class.
