Philippe Maillard Appointed Chief Operating Officer of BNP Paribas to Drive Operational and Technological Transformation

(IN BRIEF) Philippe Maillard has been appointed as the new Chief Operating Officer (COO) of BNP Paribas, effective 11 February 2025. Maillard, who previously served as COO of BNP Paribas’ Corporate & Institutional Banking (CIB) division, will now join the Executive Committee and oversee several key areas, including IT, data, procurement, and internal consulting. His role will focus on improving operational performance, developing technology resources, and fostering cross-functional collaboration, all to support BNP Paribas’ transformation in line with its strategic objectives. Maillard has a long history within the company, having held several senior positions across various business areas.

(PRESS RELEASE) PARIS, 12-Feb-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Philippe Maillard, who previously served as the Chief Operating Officer of BNP Paribas’ Corporate & Institutional Banking (CIB) division, has been appointed as the new Chief Operating Officer (COO) of BNP Paribas, effective 11 February 2025. As part of his new role, Maillard will join the BNP Paribas Executive Committee and report directly to Jean-Laurent Bonnafé, the Director and CEO of BNP Paribas.

In his new position, Maillard will oversee the Technology and Operational Performance domain, which encompasses several key areas, including IT Group, Group Data Office, facilities management, procurement, and internal consulting. His responsibilities will also involve working closely with cross-functional teams and the various business lines within BNP Paribas to drive improvements in operational performance, enhance technological capabilities, and foster greater cross-functional collaboration. This is all aimed at supporting the bank’s transformation as outlined in its strategic plan.

Jean-Laurent Bonnafé, BNP Paribas’ Director and CEO, welcomed Maillard to the Executive Committee, highlighting that his extensive experience and career within the Group, especially his leadership in the CIB division, would be vital in enhancing operational capabilities and leading the company through its ongoing transformation. Bonnafé expressed confidence in Maillard’s ability to succeed in his new role.

Biography:

Philippe Maillard’s career at BNP Paribas began in 1992 as a credit analyst. Over the years, he has held various senior positions within the Group, initially in Structured Finance, then within the “Inspection Générale” department. Maillard has also served as Business Manager for Energy, Commodities, Export & Project in New York, Deputy Head of Business Management – Structured Finance, Global Head of Performance Management at CIB Finance, CFO of Global Equities & Commodity Derivatives, and COO of BNP Paribas Arbitrage. He was appointed Chief of Staff to Yann Gérardin in 2015 and became COO of BNP Paribas’ Asia-Pacific region in 2018. In 2019, he took on the role of COO for the entire CIB division. Maillard, a graduate of “École des Ponts ParisTech” and “Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris” (Sciences Po), has played a pivotal role in overseeing CIB’s support functions and driving efficiency within the division.
