DNV-SE-0190: The World’s First Document to Certify Energy Islands and Offshore Wind Farms in Poland

(IN BRIEF) DNV has released an updated version of its service specification for project certification, DNV-SE-0190, which is the first of its kind to address the certification of energy islands and offshore wind farms in Poland. The update incorporates country-specific certification requirements outlined in the Polish Maritime Safety Act while incorporating common international practices for certifying offshore wind power plants in Poland. The certification of energy islands is vital to build stakeholder confidence in these emerging offshore renewable energy conversion and transmission facilities. DNV’s experts will be available at WindEurope in Copenhagen to discuss certification requirements for offshore wind farms worldwide and provide updates on energy islands and wind farms in Poland.

(PRESS RELEASE) BÆRUM, 19-Apr-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — Independent energy expert and assurance provider, DNV, has released an updated version of its service specification for project certification, DNV-SE-0190, which is the first document of its kind to address the certification of energy islands and offshore wind farms in Poland. This update is essential as Poland is poised for rapid growth in offshore wind and has recently published the Polish Maritime Safety Act, which outlines country-specific certification requirements. The new appendix in DNV’s service specification addresses these requirements while incorporating common international practices for certifying offshore wind power plants in Poland.

“There was a strong need from the industry to include both topics in our service specification which will support our customers to meet growth targets for offshore wind in a safe and reliable way,” explains Kim Sandgaard-Mørk, Executive Vice President for Renewables Certification at DNV. “Certification to international standards is one of the most accepted risk management tools worldwide. In times of ambitious renewables targets and cost reduction, scaling and faster implementation needs, the independent evaluation is of high importance to prove the state-of-the-art level of safety, quality and reliability for offshore wind assets.”

Fabio Pollicino, Director Service Area Renewables Certification at DNV adds:” Together with our Committee of Experts (CoE), which involves external industry members, we are ensuring that the DNV services are adjusted to the market needs considering latest experiences, technologies and lessons learned from offshore projects worldwide. Several stakeholders will benefit from our guideline for Energy islands and offshore wind farms in Poland, providing transparency to organisations involved and supporting a faster energy transition.”

The certification of energy islands, which are large offshore renewable energy conversion and transmission facilities that are still in the developmental stages, is essential to build confidence in stakeholders. Therefore, DNV has provided guidance and transparency to the market by describing the certification process.

DNV’s experts will be available at WindEurope in Copenhagen from April 25-27 at stand C21 in Hall C1 to discuss the certification requirements for offshore wind farms worldwide and provide updates on energy islands and wind farms in Poland.
