Unimog implement carrier in winter service

(IN BRIEF) Daimler Truck’s Unimog implement carrier will be used by German drivers competing in the 5th World Snowplow Championship taking place from March 10 to 13, 2026 in Chambéry, France. The competition will gather winter road maintenance professionals from 12 countries who will face technical driving challenges designed to simulate real-world snow-clearing operations. Germany’s representatives qualified during the 3rd German Snowplow Championship in Marktredwitz in 2025, where teams from Oberweyern, Bingen and Emmelshausen secured the top positions. During the international event, drivers must complete demanding manoeuvres such as slalom driving, precise stopping and simulated snow clearance under strict time and accuracy requirements. The Unimog implement carrier, produced at Daimler Truck’s Wörth am Rhein plant, is known for its agility, precise steering and adaptability for winter maintenance tasks. The championship is held alongside the 17th International Congress on Road Winter Service, Resilience and Decarbonization, which gathers global experts to discuss the future of winter road infrastructure and sustainable maintenance solutions.

(PRESS RELEASE) LEINFELDEN-ECHTERDINGEN/ CHAMBÉRY, 6-Mar-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Daimler Truck will see its Unimog implement carrier take part in the upcoming 5th World Snowplow Championship, where elite winter service professionals from around the globe will compete in a series of technical driving challenges. The international event will take place from March 10 to 13, 2026, in the French Alpine city of Chambéry and will bring together teams from 12 countries.

Germany will be represented by three drivers who qualified through the national selection process during the 3rd German Snowplow Championship held in September 2025 in Marktredwitz, Bavaria. The event attracted around 7,000 spectators and featured 33 competing teams navigating a demanding course designed to test precision and vehicle control.

The championship title in Germany was secured by the Oberweyern road maintenance department from Hesse, represented by drivers Michael Wilhelmi and Lukas Kniesner. The Bingen road maintenance department from Rhineland-Palatinate finished in second place, while the Emmelshausen motorway maintenance department, also from Rhineland-Palatinate, claimed third place. Based on these results, the German representatives for the international competition were determined. However, under the rules of the global championship, only one driver per vehicle will compete during the event.

Participants in the Snowplow World Championship will face two specially designed courses that replicate real-life winter road maintenance scenarios. Drivers will be required to perform a range of technical tasks, including navigating slalom sections through narrow passages, executing precise stopping maneuvers, and carrying out simulated snow-clearing operations on multi-lane routes. All tasks must be completed under strict time constraints and evaluated according to detailed scoring criteria.

The competition demands a high level of concentration and precision from drivers, as every movement of the steering wheel, accelerator and control joystick directly affects performance. Even small deviations can influence the final score, making technical skill and vehicle handling crucial to success.

The Unimog implement carrier is expected to demonstrate its capabilities during the competition. Known for its maneuverability, precise steering and flexible compatibility with various snow-clearing and spreading systems, the vehicle is designed to handle complex winter maintenance operations. These same qualities make the Unimog widely used in municipal and road maintenance services where reliability and efficiency are essential during winter conditions.

The Unimog implement carrier is produced at the Daimler Truck plant in Wörth am Rhein, where up to 1,000 units are delivered annually for use in municipal and infrastructure operations.

The Snowplow World Championship is being held as part of the 17th International Congress on Road Winter Service, Resilience and Decarbonization. The congress brings together international experts to discuss innovations, operational strategies and sustainability solutions in winter road maintenance. Alongside the competition, the event will serve as a platform for technical exchange and collaboration among professionals in the field.

Daimler Truck is supporting the championship as an official sponsor, reinforcing its commitment to advancing equipment and solutions used in winter service operations.
