BASF Supervisory Board Recommends Mark Garrett as Shareholder Representative Candidate Through 2028 Term

(IN BRIEF) BASF SE has nominated Mark Garrett as a shareholder representative candidate for election to its Supervisory Board at the Annual Shareholders’ Meeting scheduled for April 30, 2026. Garrett is set to succeed Liming Chen, who will step down after serving on the Supervisory Board since 2020. If elected, Garrett will serve the remainder of Chen’s term through 2028. With more than 30 years of experience in the chemical industry, including leadership roles as CEO of Borealis AG and board positions at Axalta Coating Systems and OMV Aktiengesellschaft, Garrett brings significant managerial and industry expertise. (PRESS RELEASE) LUDWIGSHAFEN, 25-Feb-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — BASF SE has announced that its Supervisory Board has nominated Mark Garrett, 63, as a shareholder representative candidate for election to the company’s Supervisory Board. The nomination follows a recommendation from the Supervisory Board’s Nomination Committee and will be presented to shareholders for approval at BASF SE’s Annual Shareholders’ Meeting on April 30, 2026.

Garrett is expected to replace Liming Chen, 65, who will step down from his position on the Supervisory Board at his own request at the conclusion of the 2026 Annual Shareholders’ Meeting. Chen has served on BASF SE’s Supervisory Board since October 2020. If elected, Garrett’s appointment will cover the remaining duration of Chen’s mandate, which runs until the end of the Annual Shareholders’ Meeting in 2028.

Dr. Kurt Bock, Chairman of BASF SE’s Supervisory Board, highlighted Garrett’s extensive industry knowledge and leadership background, noting that his more than three decades of experience have provided him with a deep understanding of the global chemical sector. Garrett has led several organizations as Chief Executive Officer and has served in supervisory and board leadership roles at both publicly traded and privately held companies. His broad managerial and entrepreneurial experience is expected to enhance the Supervisory Board’s expertise.

Garrett began his professional career in 1986 with Ciba-Geigy after completing his studies in Australia, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and a Graduate Diploma in Applied Information Systems. Over the course of his career, he has held a variety of roles in Switzerland and the United States. His leadership positions have included serving as Chief Executive Officer of Borealis AG from 2007 to 2018, Chair of the Board of Directors of Axalta Coating Systems LLC between 2019 and 2021, and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of OMV Aktiengesellschaft from 2020 until 2023. He holds both Australian and Swiss citizenship.
