Barclays’ Omar Faruqui Appointed Director General of UK Takeover Panel

(IN BRIEF) Omar Faruqui, Barclays’ Co-Head of M&A for Europe, Middle East, and Africa, has been appointed as the Director General of the UK Takeover Panel, commencing a two-year secondment from Barclays starting May 1, 2024. The UK Takeover Panel, an independent body overseeing the UK Takeover Code, plays a crucial role in regulating takeovers and ensuring fairness for shareholders. With over 25 years of experience in investment banking and extensive expertise in M&A, Faruqui’s appointment underscores his leadership and knowledge in the field. Barclays expressed pride in Faruqui’s prestigious appointment, with Pier Luigi Colizzi assuming sole leadership of M&A, EMEA, and Duncan Goelst set to become Head of Investment Banking for Continental Europe, pending regulatory approval.

(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 28-Feb-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Omar Faruqui, Barclays’ Co-Head of M&A for Europe, Middle East and Africa, is named as the Director General of the UK Takeover Panel.  He will join the Panel on a two year secondment from Barclays commencing on 1 May 2024.

The UK Takeover Panel is an independent body responsible for issuing and administering the UK Takeover Code, supervising and regulating takeovers, and ensuring fair treatment of shareholders and an orderly framework for takeover bids.

Mr. Faruqui has over 25 years of experience in investment banking and has advised on numerous acquisitions and disposals for blue-chip UK companies across a range of sectors.

As a result of Omar’s secondment, Pier Luigi Colizzi who co-headed M&A EMEA with Omar, will now become sole Head of M&A, EMEA.  In addition, and subject to regulatory approval, Duncan Goelst will become Head of Investment Banking for Continental Europe, a role previously held by Pier Luigi Colizzi. Duncan takes on this responsibility alongside his existing role as the CEO of our Netherlands business.
