Alma Media Expands Legal Content Portfolio with Acquisition of Edilex Lakitieto Oy

The acquisition, effective February 1, 2025, brings the Edilex legal information service under Alma Marketplaces. Edilex Lakitieto Oy, which generated approximately eight million euros in pro forma revenue in 2024, offers an extensive legal database, including statutes, case law, and legislative history, along with services like legal news and online training. The company also contributes to the Finlex platform, a public legal resource owned by the Finnish Ministry of Justice. As part of the acquisition, 51 employees from Edilex Lakitieto Oy will join Alma Media. (PRESS RELEASE) HELSINKI, 3-Feb-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Alma Media has acquired Edilex Lakitieto Oy from Edita Group Oyj, taking full control of its share capital. Starting February 1, 2025, the business will be integrated into Alma Marketplaces’ operations. This acquisition marks a significant expansion in Alma Media’s portfolio, particularly in the legal content space.

The acquisition is expected to further bolster Alma Media’s legal services, with Edilex Lakitieto Oy generating approximately eight million euros in pro forma revenue for 2024. While the purchase price remains undisclosed, this move will enhance Alma Media’s offerings to legal professionals in Finland.

Edilex Lakitieto Oy operates the Edilex legal information service, an essential tool for Finnish legal professionals. The platform consolidates a wide range of legal resources, including statutes, case law, legislative history, and other key materials. It also offers legal news, online services, legal training, and an extensive library of legal literature, books, and collections. Edilex serves as a key provider for Finlex, the public legal platform owned by the Finnish Ministry of Justice.

Following the acquisition, Edilex Lakitieto Oy will become part of Alma Marketplaces’ Legal Insights unit. This unit provides an array of digital legal information services, including the Finnish law search service, Suomen Laki, and Verkkokirjahylly, Finland’s largest digital legal library. The unit also delivers legal training and access to various law books and legal literature.

With the acquisition, 51 employees from Edilex Lakitieto Oy will join Alma Media.
