(PRESS RELEASE) LINZ, 26-Nov-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — voestalpine has officially opened the voestalpine BÖHLER CAMPUS in Kapfenberg, Austria — a new training and living hub designed to support the next generation of skilled professionals within the steel and technology group. The campus brings together advanced technical training with high-quality residential facilities, reinforcing voestalpine’s commitment to apprenticeships as a core investment in long-term innovation and competitiveness.

Located directly beside the company’s new apprentice residential complex, the training center offers hands-on instruction in 12 forward-looking technical professions using industry-standard equipment, modern digital tools and applied-learning environments. The campus is specifically structured to prepare young talent for automated, connected production environments — including those within the new Kapfenberg special steel plant.

CEO Herbert Eibensteiner emphasized the strategic importance of investing in skilled workers even under challenging economic conditions.
“We are deliberately strengthening apprentice education because their skills and drive are essential for voestalpine’s technological leadership. With training budgets exceeding EUR 100,000 per apprentice and cutting-edge facilities like the BÖHLER CAMPUS, we are creating the conditions for both technical excellence and personal development.”

Around 300 apprentices are currently training at the Kapfenberg site. The new living quarters beside the training center include 60 fully equipped single apartments (25–30 m² each) for apprentices aged 15 and over. Social and leisure spaces — including fitness facilities, outdoor sports areas and shared activity rooms — support a well-rounded living environment, while a dedicated educational team coordinates activities and provides on-site support. Accommodation is free during the first year, with tiered fees applied from the second year.

Member of the Management Board Reinhard Nöbauer, Head of the High Performance Metals Division, highlighted the step-change impact for the region:
“The BÖHLER CAMPUS sets new benchmarks for training quality, digital readiness and infrastructure. By combining technical education with modern living, we are enhancing the long-term attractiveness of apprenticeships at Kapfenberg.”
