(PRESS RELEASE) PARIS, 21-Nov-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — At the COP16 summit, Kering took a groundbreaking step in advancing its biodiversity commitment by becoming the first company globally to adopt science-based targets for both land and freshwater. This milestone follows Kering’s participation in the Science Based Targets Network’s (SBTN) year-long corporate pilot, making it the first organization across all industries, including fashion, to adopt such targets for nature.

The new targets are designed to complement Kering’s ongoing efforts to protect and restore biodiversity. They focus on the company’s direct operations, including its owned tanneries and factories, as well as its upstream suppliers. One key element of Kering’s strategy is a freshwater target focused initially on the Arno basin in Tuscany, where a significant portion of the Group’s water usage takes place. This will allow the company to address its impact on water resources, particularly in an area central to its supply chain.

Additionally, Kering’s targets for land include goals to prevent the conversion of natural ecosystems, reduce its land footprint, and implement relevant landscape initiatives that can have a meaningful impact on biodiversity.

This ambitious move by Kering marks a key advancement in corporate responsibility toward nature, further strengthening the Group’s leadership in sustainable business practices. For further insights, the details of Kering’s participation in the pilot program can be found in the case study.
