Stadler Partners with Metropolitano de Lisboa to Supply 24 New Metro Vehicles in Major Modernization Effort

This agreement, witnessed by key Portuguese officials, marks the second order from the Lisbon metro operator, following a previous order in 2021. The new three-car vehicles will enhance the Circular Line, featuring spacious, bright interiors, modern passenger information systems, and accessibility features, including nine double doors on each side. (PRESS RELEASE) BUSSNANG, 31-Oct-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Stadler has formalized a contract with Metropolitano de Lisboa, the operator of the Lisbon metro, to supply 24 state-of-the-art vehicles, with an option for an additional 12 units. The agreement was signed today in the presence of Portugal’s Minister of the Environment and Energy, Maria da Graça Carvalho, and Secretary of State for Mobility, Cristina Pinto Dias.

This contract, valued at €134 million, marks the second collaboration between Stadler and the Lisbon metro operator, following an initial order in 2021. The new vehicles will enhance the Circular Line, with 14 units currently under construction and the first undergoing testing within the Metro Lisbon network.

The new metro vehicles will measure 49.6 meters in length and feature large windows, ensuring bright and spacious passenger compartments. Designed for maximum comfort, they will be equipped with modern passenger information systems, including large monitors and video surveillance for added safety. Accessibility is a key focus, with the vehicles featuring nine double doors on each side and expanded vestibule areas to facilitate quick and easy boarding and disembarking.

Iñigo Parra, Executive Vice President of Stadler Division Spain, expressed pride in being selected again by Metropolitano de Lisboa for this fleet modernization. “We are excited to provide vehicles that are more comfortable, spacious, quieter, and lighter.
