BASF and Acadian Plant Health Partner to Launch Seaweed Biostimulants for Climate-Resilient Farming

(IN BRIEF) BASF has partnered with Acadian Plant Health™ to expand its BioSolutions portfolio by incorporating seaweed-based biostimulants. These biostimulants, derived from Ascophyllum nodosum, help crops withstand stressors like heat and drought, supporting sustainable agriculture. The collaboration will distribute these climate-resilient solutions globally, enhancing BASF’s commitment to climate-smart farming. BASF already offers these products in Europe and China, with plans for further market expansion.

(PRESS RELEASE) LUDWIGSHAFEN, 15-Oct-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — BASF has entered into a strategic distribution agreement with Acadian Plant Health™, a leading Canadian company specializing in marine plant-based solutions, to broaden its BioSolutions portfolio by introducing seaweed-derived biostimulants. This collaboration aligns with BASF’s mission to support sustainable and climate-smart agriculture by offering innovative solutions to global growers.

Through this partnership, BASF will integrate Acadian’s cutting-edge biostimulant technology, derived from Ascophyllum nodosum, a seaweed that thrives in harsh North Atlantic conditions. Rich in bioactive compounds, these biostimulants enhance plant resilience to stressors such as heat and drought, improving crop growth and yield. Acadian President Nelson Gibson emphasized the role of these products in addressing environmental challenges while supporting the economic well-being of farmers.

Marko Grozdanovic, Senior Vice President of Global Marketing at BASF Agricultural Solutions, highlighted the importance of this initiative, noting that farmers today must balance productivity with sustainability. By incorporating these biostimulants into its BioSolutions offering, BASF aims to equip growers with advanced tools to meet the increasing demands of food retailers for high-quality produce while navigating climate challenges.

BASF currently distributes Acadian’s biostimulants across several European countries and China, with plans to expand availability to more global markets. This collaboration will also extend BASF’s new abiotic stress management solutions to a broader audience, reinforcing the company’s dedication to climate-smart agricultural practices.
