The University of Dundee Chorus and Orchestra will later this month undertake their biggest production with performance of Carmina Burana

15-3-2013 — /europawire.eu/ — The University of Dundee Chorus and Orchestra will later this month undertake their biggest and most ambitious production to date with a performance of ‘Carmina Burana’ at the Caird Hall.

The performance of Carl Orff’s spectacular cantata, one of the world’s most famous piece of classical music and one widely used in film, TV and advertising, will take place on Sunday, 24th March.

The University choirs and orchestra will be joined guest singers and players. Trebles will be provided by the Dundee branch of the National Youth Choir of Scotland. Acclaimed guest soloists Wilma MacDougall, James Slimings and Phil Gault will be performing, and the programme also includes music by Gabriel Fauré and César Franck.

“This exciting performance marks the Caird Hall debut for the ensemble,” said Graeme Stevenson, Director of Music at the University Chaplaincy. “We have been working hard in rehearsals for the past two months and I’m sure the final performance will be worth all the hard work.

“This is easily our biggest production to date, and so we’re hoping as many people as possible come along on the night. It will be fantastic to be performing in such a prestigious venue with professional soloists and other guest performers.”

The University’s Chorus and Orchestra performance of Carmina Burana takes place at the Caird Hall at 7.30pm on Wednesday, 24th March. Tickets, costing £12, £8 (concession) and £5 (student) can be purchased from Dundee City Box Office or at the door on the night.
