The collaboration between ABP and the RNLI extends beyond financial support, with both organizations working together to promote water safety awareness and provide top-notch facilities for lifeboat crews.

(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 11-Jun-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — In a significant gesture of support for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) as it celebrates its bicentennial anniversary, Associated British Ports (ABP), the UK’s leading port operator, has stepped forward to fund a new lifeboat for the charity’s fleet. The ABP team recently visited RNLI’s Inshore Lifeboat Centre in Cowes, where the new D-Class lifeboats are constructed.

The donation from ABP, amounting to £100,000, will cover the construction costs as well as training expenses associated with the new D-class lifeboat, which will be named “ABP ONE.” This funding underscores ABP’s commitment to safety, a shared value with the RNLI, and acknowledges the vital work carried out by RNLI lifeboat crews in saving lives at sea.

Henrik L. Pedersen, CEO at Associated British Ports, expressed his pride in supporting the RNLI’s mission, stating, “Safety is of paramount importance to ABP, and this is a value we share with the RNLI. We deeply value the work done by RNLI volunteers to save lives and raise awareness around water safety.”

This contribution forms part of a broader partnership between ABP and the RNLI, which includes collaborative projects like the ABP facility at Barry Dock RNLI lifeboat station. Jamie Chestnutt, Engineering and Supply Director, highlighted the enduring relationship between the two organizations and emphasized their joint efforts to provide top-notch facilities for lifeboat crews and promote water safety awareness.

ABP’s commitment to water safety extends beyond financial support. The company actively drives awareness initiatives, such as sharing stories of ABP colleagues who volunteer with the RNLI, organizing water safety poster competitions, and distributing floating keyrings to mariners and colleagues.

Mike McCartain, Group Director for Safety, Marine, and Engineering, reflected on his longstanding personal support for the RNLI and expressed pride in ABP’s role in continuing the tradition of saving lives at sea through the construction of the new lifeboat.

The collaboration between ABP and the RNLI not only underscores a shared commitment to safety but also exemplifies the power of partnerships in ensuring the well-being of mariners and coastal communities.
