(PRESS RELEASE) GOTHENBURG, 4-Sep-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — In a significant leap for the electrification of heavy-duty transport, Volvo is set to introduce a new electric truck capable of traveling up to 600 km on a single charge. This innovation marks a major milestone in the transition towards zero-emission long-distance transport. The new Volvo FH Electric, expected to be available for purchase in the second half of 2025, is designed to meet the demands of interregional and long-haul routes, enabling transport companies to operate an entire workday without recharging.

Volvo’s latest electric truck is powered by advanced driveline technology, including the newly developed e-axle, which allows for a substantial increase in battery capacity. This, combined with more efficient batteries and an optimized battery management system, delivers the extended range.

Volvo Trucks has established itself as a global leader in the electric truck market, offering a diverse portfolio of eight battery-electric models for various applications, including city and regional distribution, construction, and waste management. To date, Volvo has delivered over 3,800 electric trucks to customers across 46 countries.

Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks, emphasized the environmental and operational benefits of the new electric truck, stating, “Our new electric flagship will enable zero-exhaust emission transport for longer distances, offering a significant reduction in CO2 emissions. Additionally, electric trucks provide a superior working environment for drivers, with lower noise and vibration levels.”

Volvo Trucks is committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2040 through its three-path technology strategy, which includes battery electric, fuel cell electric, and combustion engines powered by renewable fuels like green hydrogen and biogas. This latest development in electric truck technology represents a crucial step in Volvo’s ongoing efforts to drive the transition towards a fossil-free transport industry.
