Vodacom Launches eSIM Support, Enabling Eco-Friendly Connectivity and Enhanced Flexibility for Customers in South Africa

(IN BRIEF) Vodacom has introduced eSIM support for all smartphone plans, enabling customers in South Africa to benefit from the convenience and flexibility of eSIM technology. With eSIMs, users can easily connect to the Vodacom network and have multiple eSIMs on a single device for personal and business use. The activation of new numbers is done digitally using QR codes, streamlining the process. Not only does eSIM technology simplify connectivity for customers, but it also contributes to environmental sustainability by reducing plastic waste and carbon emissions associated with traditional SIM cards.

(PRESS RELEASE) BERKSHIRE, 27-Jul-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — Vodacom customers [in South Africa] are now able to enjoy eSIM (embedded- Subscriber Identity Module) support for all smartphone plans, including prepaid, top-up/hybrid, and postpaid contracts.

This means that customers who have eSIM-enabled smartphones can now easily connect to the Vodacom network and take advantage of the benefits, capabilities, and flexibility that eSIM technology provides.

Having multiple eSIMs on a single device for personal and business use is now also possible.

Customers can activate their new number digitally using QR codes – allowing for easy and convenient connection with loved ones.

What is an eSIM?

An eSIM is a small chip embedded in your phone instead of a removable plastic SIM card. Unlike a traditional SIM card, you cannot remove and use it in a different phone.

SIM cards contain unique identifying information that enables a mobile phone or device to connect securely to a mobile network.

However, the eSIM technology stores mobile information in a few lines of code on a dedicated chip inside a device rather than on a removable card. This eliminates the need for manufacturing and shipping plastic, which also reduces carbon emissions.

Using an eSIM is more eco-friendly.
