Initially, more than 8% of incoming calls were identified as fraudulent and blocked, which deterred scammers from targeting the network further.

A 2023 report by the Global Anti-Scam Alliance (GASA) highlighted phone calls as the leading channel for scam attempts globally. Like many countries, Egypt faces significant issues with voice call scams, where spoofing misleads subscribers about the caller’s identity, often impersonating banks or authorities to facilitate financial fraud or personal data theft.

To combat this, Telecom Egypt implemented Enea’s voice firewall, a zero-trust solution that accurately detects and blocks spoofed calls. This proactive measure ensures that only genuine calls reach subscribers, preventing scams at the outset.
