Swiss Civil Protection Renews Partnership with Eviden to Enhance Polyalert System for Multichannel Public Emergency Communications

(IN BRIEF) Eviden, the Atos Group brand specializing in mission-critical and cybersecurity technologies, has received a contract extension from the Swiss Federal Office for Civil Protection to continue maintaining and upgrading Polyalert, the nationwide population alerting system, through 2031 with an optional extension to 2035. Polyalert, developed by Eviden and in operation since 2016, provides multilingual emergency notifications across multiple channels, connects with the Alertswiss app and website, and activates Switzerland’s network of 5,000 sirens through the secure Polycom radio system. Independent of commercial internet and mobile networks, the system delivers resilient alerting capabilities during severe weather events, industrial accidents, and other major emergencies. The renewed agreement underscores Eviden’s role as a key supplier within Switzerland’s public-safety ecosystem and highlights its broader mission-critical expertise, including critical communications, emergency management, AI, and cybersecurity solutions for civil protection and law enforcement.

(PRESS RELEASE) PARIS, 19-Nov-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Eviden, the Atos Group product brand recognized for its expertise in advanced computing, cybersecurity, mission-critical systems and Vision AI, has secured a multi-year contract extension from the Swiss Federal Office for Civil Protection (FOCP). The renewed agreement, which runs until 2031 with the option to extend through 2035, ensures ongoing maintenance, enhancements, and modernization of Polyalert — Switzerland’s central alerting system used to notify the public during major emergencies such as severe weather, industrial accidents, or environmental threats. The decision reinforces Eviden’s long-standing role as a trusted technology partner capable of evolving Polyalert to meet Switzerland’s continuously shifting civil-protection needs.

Polyalert, designed and implemented by Eviden and operational since 2016, serves as the backbone of the country’s multichannel alerting strategy. The system enables authorities to rapidly issue consistent notifications in German, French, Italian, and English while selecting the most appropriate communication channels for each type of emergency. Operating with high redundancy and strict cybersecurity protections, Polyalert functions independently from commercial internet or mobile networks, ensuring resilient nationwide alerting capabilities.

A critical component of the Swiss public-safety infrastructure, Polyalert remotely triggers the network of approximately 5,000 sirens across the country through the Polycom national secure radio system. It is also linked to the Alertswiss mobile app and website, allowing citizens to receive real-time safety information and prepare during unfolding crisis situations.

Under the extended agreement, Eviden will continue to provide operational support, system upgrades, resilience improvements, and adherence to FOCP’s evolving requirements. The company will employ advanced methodologies and managed-services best practices to ensure uninterrupted performance and state-of-the-art functionality.

“This contract extension is a strong recognition of our deep understanding of FOCP’s requirements and our long-term commitment to supporting Switzerland with modular, scalable mission-critical systems to keep its population safe,” said Martin Thüring, Switzerland Head of Homeland Security at Eviden, Atos Group.

Eviden also plays a central role in Switzerland’s broader public safety ecosystem as the primary solution provider and integrator of Polycom, the nationwide encrypted radio network used by rescue and security authorities and organizations (BORS). Polycom enables seamless mission-critical communication among border guards, police forces, fire brigades, medical emergency teams, civil protection units, and military support personnel.

With three decades of homeland-security experience, Eviden develops advanced digital platforms and communication systems for civil-protection and law-enforcement organizations worldwide. Its capabilities span 4G/5G critical communications, emergency response management, computer vision, signals intelligence, data analytics, AI, and cybersecurity — all designed to enhance safety in cities, border regions, major events, and strategic infrastructure sites.
